UPDATES

8 am Monday, October 5 2015

***More than 45 Palestinian terror attacks targeted Israelis from 8:00 am until midnight yesterday. A few examples:

At 11:28 pm, a Palestinian missile fired from Gaza exploded in the Eshkol region. There were no incoming missile sirens beforehand.

At 11:06 pm, incoming missile sirens blared in the Eshkol region in the vicinity of Nahal Oz. Shortly thereafter missile impact explosions were heard. At least two missiles were fired at Israeli men, women, and children.

Numerous “rock”, Molotov, and IED attacks occurred all day throughout eastern Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria at such places as Bir Zeit, Hursa, Anatoth, and at the Tapuach Junction. Police, Border Guards, and civilians were wounded. For example, a Border Guard at Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem had to be hospitalized after being hit by shrapnel from an IED.

***Another burial in the Har HaMenuchot cemetery yesterday . . .

Barely 24 hours after the Na’ama and Etaim Henkel were buried there, Rabbi Nechamia Lavi was laid to rest yesterday.

Rabbi Nechamia Lavie. May he rest in peace.

The 41-year-old father of seven children was killed Saturday evening when he rushed out of his house to try to save Aaron and Adele Bennett who were being stabbed by a Palestinian terrorist.

His heroic actions did manage to save Adele Bennett and her children, but both he and Aaron Bennett were killed.

At the funeral, President Rivlin remembered him this way: “You died for your people and country. For your homeland. You died doing your duty. Giving to others was always a part of you. Your children will not forget your bravery and love. We, the people of Israel, will not forget either.”

***Aaron Bennett was also buried yesterday.

He was a corporal in the IDF having enlisted in military service via Project Shahar which integrates orthodox Jews into the army. At the funeral, Bennett was eulogized as “a smiling, friendly person who was liked by everyone.”

In a piece of good news, Adele Bennett, with multiple stab wounds, has improved from critical to stable condition. Her baby, who was also wounded, has been stabilized and was moved to her room last night.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Netanyahu yesterday with Eisenkott (left of picture) and Ya'alon (right). The current prevailing opinion is that Netanyahu is great at making speeches, but negligent in protecting Israeli citizens.

From left to right in first line: Eisenkot, Netanyahu, and Ya’alon. The prevailing opinion in Israel these days is that Netanyahu is great at making speeches, but negligent in protecting Israeli citizens.

PM Netanyahu returned to Israel yesterday and immediately called an emergency meeting to deal with all of the violence that has swept Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria with so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, Israel Security Agency Director Yoram Cohen, and the acting Chief of Israeli Police Bentzi Sau.

At the end of the meeting, Netanyahu issued a statement that was full of his characteristic bluster: “We are in the midst of a bitter war to the end against Palestinian terrorism.”

Really? A bitter war to the end against Palestinian terrorism?

Actually the results of that meeting show just how incompetent the Netanyahu government has become in dealing with terrorism, and they show that the Netanyahu government is doing nothing more than trying to keep “the status quo.”

Here is a list of actions being taken:

1. The IDF will expedite the demolition of terrorists’ homes. This is a totally bogus action which is sure to be thwarted by the Israel Supreme Court–and even if it is not, the terrorists’ families will have their homes instantly rebuilt by the PLO.

2. Administrative detention for rioters will be expanded. This is another totally bogus action. Does anyone really think that the rioters care? And why wasn’t this done years before now? If Netanyahu and Ya’alon can put Jewish community members in prison for six months with no accusations, no indictments, and no trials, why in the world aren’t rioters already being dealt with in the same way?

3. Those engaged in incitement will be banned from the Old City and the Temple Mount. What a joke. Half of those engaged in incitement live across the street from the Old City in the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem. Their being banned means nothing.

4. Security forces in Jerusalem will be “thickened”: in order to create “a sense of security” among Israelis citizens, abandoned checkpoints will be reopened, Palestinians will be “checked more carefully” when they exit their settlements, and there will be an effort to limit “illegal residents” from entering Israel from Judea and Samaria. Aren’t every one of these steps something that the government should have doing all along? Again, what in the world is going on: no real security–just “a sense of security”?

5.  There will be closer integration of the police, IDF, and ISA (Israel Security Agency). Do you mean to say that these organizations were not already working closely together?

Total gross incompetence.

Your humble servant just has to shake his head at a Netanyahu government that has been completely asleep at the wheel of protecting our citizens.

Yesterday afternoon here in Ashdod, your humble servant joined a group of 500 citizens demonstrating against the government’s ineptness. One of the chants sounded was the same one we sounded here in the South during last year’s war: “Bibi, Bibi, Wake up and do something!”

Of course, last year, Bibi never did wake up.

Here are two pictures from our Ashdod demonstration:

The sign reads:

The sign (roughly translated) reads: “The nation of Israel is not afraid of a long fight; we will win.”

Picture 2:

The sign that the two girls are holding reads:

The sign that the two girls are holding reads: “Jewish blood: Not in vain!!”

And here is a sign that was put up all over Israel yesterday:

The main part of this sign reads: "Bibi, give an order!"

The main part of this sign reads: “Bibi, give an order!” In other words, “Bibi, wake up and do something!”

“Bibi, give an order!” “Bibi, wake up and do something!”

Unfortunately, beset by political correctness, Bibi will probably just continue his long snooze.
