8:00 pm UPDATES (from the Syrian border)

5:05 pm: Israeli woman wounded by “rocks” thrown at her car just south of Hebron.

3:51 pm: 3 Israelis wounded in “bulldozer attack” near Beit Anun. Two moderately wounded, 1 seriously. Terrorist escaped.

1:42 pm: Palestinian terrorist tries to stab IDF soldier in Hebron. Soldier unhurt; terrorist shot and killed.

7:00 am UPDATES

***Saturday was rampant with Palestinian terrorism . . .

“Rocks”, firebombs, an attempted stabbing, shooting attacks: Palestinians attacked Israelis in almost every conceivable way.

From the stabbing attempt at the Jalama checkpoint near Jenin in the morning (fortunately no Israeli was wounded and the terrorist was killed) to the firebombing of an IDF position at Negohot in the evening, the violence did not abate. Passengers on a bus at Karmi Tsur and in a car at Dolev were wounded by “rocks”.

But the most violent outbursts of the day were in Hebron where soldiers were shot at, IDF positions were firebombed, and Israeli residents were pummeled with “rocks”.

***And it didn’t have to happen . . .

The violence in Hebron was a direct outgrowth of the idiotic Israeli decision to release the bodies of 7 terrorists back to their families in Hebron. Tens of thousands of rioters roamed the streets looking for Israeli security personnel to attack in the wake of the celebrations of their release. During the course of the day at least 10 Palestinians were shot, but it did little to quell the attacks.

Your humble servant is still aghast wondering what lunacy is filling the heads of our decision makers. How is it even remotely possible that PM Netanyahu and “Defense” Minister Ya’alon signed off on sending the terrorists’ bodies back to their families in Hebron–the hottest of the hot spots.

Couldn’t a two-year old child have been able to foresee what would happen?

Last night, on Israel Channel 2, Ya’alon was asked about this and could only feebly mumble that “the Palestinians were not supposed to celebrate the return of the bodies” and “keeping the bodies served no purpose.”

“The Palestinians were not supposed to celebrate”? What in the world did Netanyahu and Ya’alon think that a Palestinian “people” who love death, jihad, and martyrdom would do?

“Served no purpose”? How about that keeping the bodies might have avoided more attacks on Israelis?

And what do you think is going to happen today–when another 5 to 7 bodies are released?

Unbelievable. Just plain unbelievable.

***Also unbelievable yesterday was the continued abandonment of Israel by Israeli athletes . . .

Last week, we reported here on israelstreet how Israeli windsurfer Maayan Davidovitch competed in a windsurfing championship last week in Oman. You may remember that she could only get into the country by using an Austrian passport and by agreeing to not have the Israeli flag on her windsail. It was an egregious caving into the Arabs by both the international body that oversees the sport, and by Davidovitch herself who agreed to compete under those conditions.

Yesterday, two Israeli athletes won medals at a Judo Grand Slam event in Abu Dhabi. Israeli Yarden Gerbi won the bronze in the under women’s under 63 kg class, and Sagi Muki won the bronze in the men’s under 73 kg.

If you had been there, you would not have known that Gerbi and Muki were Israelis because they agreed to compete under the condition that the Israeli flag not appear on their judo outfits and no reference to Israel be made.

They, like Davidovitch, agreed to the conditions.

Unbelievable. Just plain unbelievable.

The day is coming in international competitions in which Israel will be expunged from public view.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Almost as unbelievable as the government’s decision to hand over the bodies and the Israeli athletes’ willingness to compete without any Israeli identification were the tens of thousands in Tel Aviv last night who continued the month-long orgy of mourning over the death of their messiah, Yitzhak Rabin, 20 years ago.

A more delusional group of Israelis has not been seen since the election campaign earlier this year when the same group of people met to applaud themselves over the fact that PM Netanyahu was on his way out and Herzog and Livni would soon lead the country.

Except that it didn’t turn out that way.

Last night’s deluge of grief was punctuated by a speech by Bill Clinton (we still haven’t found out how much he was paid to attend) in which Clinton dissembled that the day of Rabin’s death “was probably the worst day of my 8 years as president.”

Not the worst mind you, but “probably the worst.” It must rank right up there with the day that Monica Lewinsky revealed that she still had the little blue dress with Clinton’s DNA on it.

Clinton continued his lament: “You have to decide that the risks for peace are not as severe as the risks of walking away from it.”

Easy for Clinton to say–within a day or two he’ll be jetting out of Israel and on to another location where he can collect more speaking fees. And isn’t it funny how so many non-Israelis feel so free to tell Israelis that they must risk their lives for peace?

Clinton was followed by a pre-recorded video of Barack Obama who took time out from his embrace of Iran to utter this platitude:  “A bullet can take a man’s life, but his spirit and his dream of peace will never die.”

The irony is that numerous people in the last week including some in Rabin’s own family have remarked that Rabin’s dream of peace died before him–and that he was about to pull the plug on Oslo.
