SPECIAL NOTICE:

The statistics for October are in, and your humble servant is happy to report that israelstreet is reaching more people than ever before. This blog recorded 355,706 hits for the month, and we are particularly happy that an average of 174 new readers came here everyday from more than 115 countries around the world. Thank you to all of you dear readers for helping us get the word out about what is going on in Israel!

UPDATES 8:00 PM

6:11 pm: Palestinian terrorists in car throw Molotov firebombs at Israeli family car at Hawara, south of Shechem. None of the people in the Israeli car were wounded. The terrorists escaped.

UPDATES 5:00 PM

4:58 pm: Palestinian stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion Junction. Terrorist from Hebron attempted to stab group of soldiers at bus stop, and was shot and killed by the soldiers.

The scene at the Gush Etzion Junction a few minutes ago. The dead terrorist is on the sidewalk.

No further info at this time.

UPDATES 12:00 PM

11:44 am: King Abdullah has decreed that the new camera system for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem will not include any cameras inside the Kipat HaSela (Dome of the Rock) or the Al-Aksa Mosque.

Which means that the camera system will be a pathetic joke. All of the Palestinian terrorists use the Al-Aksa Mosque as their base of operations in which they store weapons of all sorts and from which they attack Israeli security personnel and Jews on the Mount. Also, it from Al-Aksa that the most vicious incitement against Israel is disseminated on a daily basis.

11:30 am: Great news (not). Because we had one day without a stabbing attack yesterday, the fools who run our government and the IDF have decided that everything is now ok. In the last 30 minutes, it has been announced that the Gilboa (Jalama) Checkpoint is open again and that the Magavnik reserves who have brought some semblance of order to Jerusalem are being sent home.

Just plain unbelievable.

UPDATES 10:30 AM

10:11 am: Two mortars strike the Israeli Golan in precisely the area where your humble servant was two days ago. No Israelis wounded.

9:56 am: Medical updates: the 80-year-old woman stabbed in Rishon LeZion several days ago remains in critical condition. The 35-year-old man stabbed in the same attack has improved to “satisfactory” condition. The Border Guard run over yesterday remains in “grave condition.”

UPDATES 9:00 AM

***Palestinian terror yesterday:

The caption in Hebrew reads "the terrorist's car". Note the indentation on the front of the car where the Border Guard was hit and landed, and the bullet holes on the driver's side of the windshield through which the terrorist was killed. Also note the distinctive white Palestinian license plate on the car (picture: 0404).

–The worst attack yesterday occurred at Halhul where a Palestinian terrorist from Hebron rammed his car into a Border Guard and another Israeli  in what has come to be called a “bulldozer” attack.

When these attacks do not kill, they cause horrific wounds, and yesterday’s was no exception–the Border Guard was “gravely wounded” and is hovering near death this morning in a coma with extensive head and torso wounds. The other Israeli is in “moderate” condition.

Please pray for the Border Guard.

Fortunately the terrorist was shot and killed, but inexplicably his body was returned to his family last night in Hebron. Riots broke out around the family’s home, and more Israelis were wounded by “rocks” and other projectiles thrown by the rioters. Why the Netanyahu government has dangerously embarked upon a policy of immediately returning terrorist bodies is a deeply disturbing mystery.

More than 40 other Palestinian terror attacks took place yesterday: missile firings out of Gaza, Molotov firebombs, “rocks”, and on and on. A few of the examples:

Missiles were fired at Israel at 10:22 pm last night; Molotov firebombs were hurled at Israelis at Rachel’s Tomb (5:34 pm), Awa (5:07 pm), Abu Dis (3:05 pm), Hebron (2:49 pm), A-Ram (1:30 pm), and on Route 443 (11:51 am).

Simply put, gruesome barbaric Palestinian terror is a daily feature of life here in Israel.

***Most of the attacks yesterday, as always, occurred in Judea and Samaria.

But after the Netanyahu government (inexplicably again) removed roadblocks and checkpoints from neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem, you can expect stabbings and other violence to hit the capital again in short order.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to predict this. When checkpoints were removed from Hebron, Palestinian terror attacks immediately ensued; when the Gilboa checkpoint was reopened two days ago, there was a stabbing attack one hour later; when a checkpoint was removed from one end of the Jebal Mukaber neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem two days ago, a terrorist attacked within the hour.

How have we gotten to a point in this country in which being “politically correct” supersedes the lives of our citizens?

***The same suicidal striving to be politically correct is seen every day on the Gaza Border where the IDF’s ridiculous COGAT unit waves tons of supposedly “humanitarian materials” through the Erez and Kerem Shalom Crossings.

Every now and then, the inspectors spot something “unusual” but more often than not weapons and tunnel-building materials pass right through.

For every 10 deliveries destined for Hamas, about 1 is found and confiscated at the border.

***Speaking of suicidal . . . and why the Herzog-Livni party lost the election this year . . .

As was reported on israelstreet last month, a new law proposing that “anyone who supports BDS or belongs to an organization that supports BDS will not be allowed into the country” was approved by a ministerial committee and sent to the Knesset (where it must be approved in a series of three votes) in order to become law.

At that time, your humble servant observed that even if the law passes, our leftist Supreme Court at the urging of our leftist Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein will almost certainly strike down the law.

Nevertheless, because the proposed law was co-authored and sponsored by members of the Herzog-Livni party, it seemed that the law had a good chance of at least making it through the Knesset.

That hope evaporated yesterday when the ultra-leftist Herzog-Livni party withdrew its support for the bill and had its members remove their names as co-sponsors.

It is precisely actions like this that delegitimize Israel that caused voters to send Herzog and Livni packing last March.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Emblem of the Border Guards.

The emblem of the Border Guards.

One of the most important yet least known of the Israeli Security Forces is the Mishmar HaGvul–the border security branch of the Israel National Police. Often called Border Guards or Border Police in the media, they are known on the street here as the “magavnikim.”

In a general sense, their mission is to secure Israel’s borders, but their more specific mission is to assist the IDF in counter-terrorism and law enforcement in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem. They are in charge of almost all border crossings, and are thus on the front line of the battle against Palestinian terrorists.

A female Magavnik at a border crossing near Bethlehem. How many terrorists in recent weeks have been Palestinian women who hid knives under their clothes?

It is no surprise that a very large percentage of Israeli security personnel killed or wounded are magavnikim and military police. As written aforehand, the person gravely wounded yesterday in the “bulldozer” attack was a magavnik. You may remember the Dikla Megadish, the woman who was stabbed at Kikar Adam three weeks ago. Dikla is a magavnik. In both of these terror incidents, other magavniks were the ones who killed the terrorists.

It’s no secret that Palestinian terrorists are particularly wary of magavnikim and military police–who are known for their professionalism.

There are only about 6,000 magavnikim partly because they are considered some of Israel’s toughest fighters. Entrance into the various units only comes after extensive and grueling tests of mental ability and physical endurance.  The three most prominent subdivisions of the group are the super-secret Yamam (counter-terror undercover), Samag (Counter-Terror Rapid Deployment, and Matilan (intelligence gathering and infiltrations interception).

Interestingly, the magavnikim are also famed because they are probably the most diverse group within the security forces with a high percentage of women and minority group members such as Druze (mainly stationed in the Jerusalem area), Circassians, Israeli Arab Christians, and Bedouins.

Today, your humble servant salutes the magavnikim, who put their lives on the line everyday in defense of this country and its people!
