Palestinian terror today.

Numerous attacks have taken place throughout Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem today. Here were some of the worst:

Early this morning, a Border policeman was wounded by “rocks” at Bani Zeid.

At 5:00 am, an IDF force operating in the Shechem Casbah came under fire from Palestinian terrorists. No Israelis were wounded.

At 10:15 am, a group of soldiers were fired at from a passing car in Gush Etzion. No Israelis were wounded.

At 1:34 pm, Palestinian terrorists opened fire at the residents of Beit Hagai in the Hebron Hills. No Israelis were wounded.

About 15 minutes later at 1:50 am, two terrorists attempted to stab IDF soldiers in the square at Beit Anun beside Mt. Hebron. No soldiers were wounded. Both terrorists were shot and killed.

All day long, Palestinian terrorists have attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs in such places as Beit Awa, Beit Ummar, Rachel’s Tomb, Husan, Fawwar, the Jerusalem Light Rail, A-Tur, and Beit Jala. Numerous Israelis were wounded and traumatized.

To top all of this off, a grenade was found near a kindergarten in Holon late this afternoon. Police sappers are on hand to defuse it.

***The Swedish foreign minister strikes again . . .

Speaking in the Swedish Parliament today on the subject of the “Israel-Palestine” situation, Margot Wallstrom again accused Israel of carrying out unjustified killings of Palestinians who were involved in terror attacks–and called for an international investigation into Israel’s “behavior.”

According to the Foreign Minister, Israelis have no right to act in self-defense. In an amazing feat of illogic, Wallstrom says that unless an Israeli is killed by a terrorist, Israelis have no right to kill the terrorist.

***It has come to light today that the European Union has been funding an illegal Palestinian road connecting eastern Gush Etzion to the Dead Sea and on to Jordan. Most of the road runs through Area C of Judea–an area under total Israeli control.

The outrageous EU road being illegally built in Israeli territory.

The outrageous EU road being illegally built in Israeli territory.

A rough trail of sorts was always in place in this area, but wholesale road construction is now taking place with the entire length of the road now being bulldozed and paved. It is part of the EU process of trying to create facts on the ground–this fact being the creeping Palestinian annexation of the Judean desert.

To put it bluntly, someone in Israel has been asleep at the wheel to allow this to happen. Let’s hope that the government will immediately bring the project to a halt.

***Unfortunately, Republican Presidential Candidate Ben Carson’s campaign is going nowhere, but he hit the nail on the head this morning.

Criticizing President Obama and Democrat Party leaders’ outrageous invitation to two members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to Obama’s State of the Union message today, Carson blasted CAIR and called for an investigation of the group:

“CAIR  has done things that are clearly not pro-American. Let’s go ahead and investigate the [group]. Let’s not be giving them access to the ability to further carry on what they call a civilization jihad.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

In what is being described by Israeli treasury officials as “an amazing result for the Israeli economy”, the percentage of public debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declined last year by 1.8%. the percentage of government debt to GDP declined even more–by 2.2% (from 65.5% to 63.4%).

According to Treasury estimates, this percentage will continue to decline in 2016.

In fact, since 2008, Israel has succeeded in reducing its debt to GDP ratio by more than any other Western country.

The net effect of this reduction is that Israel’s already strong credit rating will be strengthened even more which will in turn lower the financing costs (aka interest) that Israel will be charged on loans.

Why has the debt to GDP percentage declined? A number of factors have played a role including a continued lowering of the budget deficit (now down to 2.1%), the decrease in interest on the national debt, various amorphous market factors, and a decline in the value of the Euro.

Whatever the reasons, the statistics show an Israeli economy that is robust and a governmental fiscal policy that is sound.
