UPDATES: 7:00 pm Israel time
Palestinian terror today.
Four major attacks have occurred in the last eight hours:
*At 11:03 am, a Palestinian terrorist opened fire on three IDF soldiers at Beit El. Two of the soldiers were critically wounded, the third was moderately wounded. The terrorist was shot and killed (see complete story in TODAY’S BLOG below).
*At 2:15 pm, a Palestinian terrorist tried to run over and stab soldiers on Road 443 at the Beit Horon checkpoint. No soldiers were wounded. The terrorist was shot and killed.
*At 4:17 pm, a Palestinian terrorist tried to stab an Israeli at the Gush Etzion junction. The terrorist was captured.
*At 5:06 pm, Palestinian terrorists attacked a car being driven by a pregnant woman near Kiryat Arba. Miraculously, she was “only” wounded by glass fragments from her shattered windshield. The terrorists escaped.
Aside from the above attacks, there were more than 25 other assaults by Palestinian terrorists at locations such as Hawara, Al Khader, Kiryat Arba, and the Shuafat neighborhood of Jerusalem.
–>Continued improvement by Mandy Rivkin.
Rivkin, the Israeli gravely wounded in a stabbing attack two weeks ago and not expected to survive, has continued his miraculous recovery. After awakening from a medically induced coma two days ago and talking to his wife, Rivkin allowed this picture to be made yesterday:
–>Excellent news on the IDF salary front.
Beginning tomorrow, IDF combat soldiers will have their pay increase from 1077 ($276) shekels to 1616 shekels ($414) per month. This salary is still woefully small–but at least it is a start toward correcting serious pay inequities.
Those in IDF “support roles” will see their salaries rise from 784 shekels to 1176 shekels a month.
IDF pay has increased more than 130% in the last two years.
–>Yehuda Weinstein’s reign of terror against the Israeli “Right” comes to an end.
It is with great pleasure that we here on israelstreet note the end of Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein’s 7 year term of office.
Weinstein’s term has been marked by unremitting attacks on the Israeli “Right”, and an unprecedented power grab that left Weinstein a de facto dictator. Perhaps no instance of Weinstein’s behavior was more reprehensible than his attempts to influence the election last year. Even after those attempts backfired, Weinstein has continued on his left-wing march right up until the last minute.
Avichai Mandelblit will be Israel’s new Attorney General.
–>The changing face of Europe.
It was reported the British National Bureau Statistics yesterday that Britain is now home to more than 3,000,000 Muslims–with more than half of them having been born outside of England.
An explosive birthrate has doubled the number of Muslims in the last decade. A number of London neighborhoods now have populations that are more than 50% Muslim. The Muslim population will only increase in the coming years because 25% of British Muslims are younger than 10 years old.
By the way, 5000 British non-Muslims convert to Islam each year.
This pattern of immigration, birthrate, and conversion is being repeated throughout Europe.
–>A followup to the Iranian takeover of the U.S. Naval vessels a few weeks ago.
Just when you thought that Iran could not rub America’s face in the mud even more, the Iranians did so yesterday.
Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whom President Obama is fond of calling “Supreme Leader,” held an awards ceremony in Tehran.
Specifically, he awarded the “Medal of Conquest” to Revolutionary Guards Admiral Ali Fadavi for his “courageous actions” in capturing the American vessels and degrading the American sailors.
By the way, it was announced today that President Obama will soon be making his first visit to an American mosque–one that just happens to have ties with the Muslim Brotherhood. As you undoubtedly know, the Muslim Brotherhood is actively involved in trying to undermine the Egyptian government–and as such, is supported by Ali Khamenei’s Iran.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Why was this morning’s shooting attack at Beit El so egregious?
For two reasons.
To begin with, the Palestinian terrorist in the picture above was yet another PLO “policeman.” This marks the third “PLO policeman” attack since December following ones in Silwad a month ago, and another in Hizma in recent weeks.
Where, you may ask, does the PLO get weapons and equipment for its “police” (aka terrorists)? From multiple sources: Jordan, Egypt, the U.S., and Europe. But all of these armaments are only provided with the approval of Israel.
Why in the world does Israel go along with arming the PLO?
There is no good answer to this question except so that the PLO can supposedly defend itself from Hamas and Islamic Jihad–in other words, to prop up Mahmoud Abbas.
Instead, PLO policeman are using the weapons to try to kill Israelis–and Palestinians who attempt to work with Israelis.
Second, this shooting is yet another case of idiotic political correctness.
Several months ago, the IDF–reacting to American and European pressure–outrageously decided to open the road from Ramallah to Beit El to all Arab traffic. The removal of a checkpoint near Ramallah was part of a larger IDF plan to remove more checkpoints so that the Palestinian population “could breathe.”
Even following the shooting murders of Rabbi Meir Chai and the Henkins, the IDF refused to reinstall the checkpoints.
How many Israelis will have to be shot and killed before the IDF reverts to some semblance of rationality?
Your humble servant believes that it is more important for Israelis to literally breathe, than for Palestinians to symbolically do so.
