UPDATES 7:00 pm Israel time

–>Palestinian terror today.

*On a day which has again seen tens of Palestinian attacks on Israeli children, women, and men, the worst attack so far occurred at 8:32 am when an IDF soldier was stabbed at a bus stop in Ashkelon. The soldier, a chayal boded (a lone soldier from outside of Israel), was moderately wounded. A fellow soldier chased down the terrorist, shot, and killed him.*

*In the A-Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem, police conducted a raid this morning during which they found two loaded machine guns, 500 rounds of 9mm bullets, another cache of 5.56 bullets, and an M 16 rifle.

–>Outrage continues over the visit by Balad party members to the homes of terrorists.

Over the years, Knesset legislators of the extreme left-wing Arab-Israeli political party Balad have regularly visited the homes of Palestinian terrorists who have attacked and murdered Israelis.

However, their sympathy visit to the homes of the three terrorists who carried out the attack last week that resulted in the murder of Border Guard Hadar Cohen has finally spurred action.

A new law is being written that would allow the Knesset to suspend such legislators for egregiously anti-Israel behavior.

Such a law would seem obvious but you can expect it to be fiercely opposed by Balad’s fellow leftists in the Knesset.

–>There is also outrage about another synagogue arson attack.

PM Netanyahu was quick to condemn yet another Palestinian arson attack on Saturday that targeted a makeshift synagogue in Givat Sorek near Karmi Tzur that was put up in response to the murder of the three Israeli teenagers in June of 2014.

In this attack, Torah scrolls and books were piled up and badly burned.

Of course, the attack, like so many other attacks over the years should be condemned internationally, but the fact is that no one will say a word. The world doesn’t care if Jewish places of worship in Israel are burned down, but let just one word be scribbled on a mosque and you would think the world was coming to an end.

The irony of Netanyahu’s statement is that his government, led by Moshe Ya’alon, regularly bulldozes synagogues in Judea and Samaria.

–>The level of the Kineret (Sea of Galilee) rises slightly.

Following our report on the Kineret several days ago, rains began in the Galilee region of northern Israel. In the last two days the lake rose by almost 3 cm.

Unfortunately, the Kineret is still 3.97 meters below normal.

–>The average income per household in Israel rises slightly.

According to statistics released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average gross income per household in Israel in 2014 was 18,329 shekels ($4700) per month. Statistics are not yet available for 2015.

Given the high cost of living in Israel, this amount is just enough to help the average family tread water.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Just when you think that our Israeli government cannot get any crazier . . .

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, a long-time favorite of israelstreet, seems to have gone off the deep end. In a cabinet meeting today, Bennett proposed that an appropriate answer to all of the terrorism afflicting Israel is to double the number of Palestinians allowed into Israel on work permits.

Think about this for a moment.

We already have 55,000 Palestinians working in Israel on work permits and an estimated 30,000 more working illegally in Israel without permits. In addition, there are another 25,000 Palestinians working in Jewish communities of Area C in Judea and Samaria.

And now Bennett wants 100,000 more potential terrorists among us?

A rational person might simply ask: “why”?

According to Bennett’s convoluted reasoning, bringing more Palestinians into Israel will make their families more dependent on Israel. Thus the family will have a greater interest in stopping potential terrorists.

What a joke. Did the family of the Tel Aviv stabber try to stop him? Did the families of the terrorists from Qabatiya last week try to stop them? When have Palestinian families ever stopped terrorists from stabbing and shooting Israelis?

By the way, regular readers of this blog will have no difficulty guessing which crackpot Cabinet member immediately embraced Bennett’s crackpot idea.

That’s right. Our so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon.

Fortunately, Bennett’s proposal was tabled by PM Netanyahu for further discussion.

*Addendum.

Later reports today have identified the terrorist in Ashkelon this morning as a Sudanese Muslim who had infiltrated Israel. The PLO is already praising him as “a Palestinian martyr.”
