–>Palestinian terrorists on the rampage.

Palestinian terrorism took various forms yesterday with a bulldozer car attack at Beit Einun; Molotov firebomb attacks at the entrance to Gush Etzion and Psagot; “rock” assaults at Louvain, Pondok, Tekoa, Hawara, and Sinjil (to name a few places); and an IED thrown at our troops at Wadi Burkin in Samaria.

To top it off,  two terrorists affiliated with Islamic State were captured in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Baher prior to carrying out a terror attack.

–>The case of the soldier in Hevron will not go away.

Of course, we are referring to the soldier who shot and killed a Palestinian terrorist as he lay on the ground in Hevron last Thursday. That terrorist had already been shot after he stabbed an IDF soldier. The soldier says that he shot the terrorist because he feared that the terrorist was wearing a suicide vest which he was about to detonate.

Even though much evidence has been adduced that completely supports the soldier, he remains in military detention as an investigation proceeds.

More rallies in support of the soldier took place yesterday and will take place today (a large one is scheduled for Ramle at 5:30 this afternoon). The petition drive (there are some 30 different petitions) calling for the soldier’s immediate release has now reached nearly 100,000 signatures.

There were two significant events that took place yesterday.

*In the first, a MADA (Magen David Adom paramedic) committee issued its findings about the incident. You may remember that MADA has also been criticized for not treating the wounded terrorist as he lay on the ground.

The MADA committee said that its paramedics followed procedure to the letter. It stated that the terrorist was not treated because “of the fear of finding an explosive on the body of the terrorist.” Even more specifically, MADA declared that no security person had dispelled the possibility that the terrorist was wired to explode under his jacket.

In other words, the MADA committee’s findings support the soldier’s version exactly and run directly counter to the version that our so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Chief of Staff Eisenkot, and IDF spokesman have been feeding the public.

*In the second, “Defense” Minister Ya’alon stood before the Knesset yesterday and once again, astonishingly, accused the soldier of being guilty. Ya’alon asked the legislators why they want to make a hero out of a “fallen soldier”–one who lost his “moral backbone”?

Immediately thereafter, Ya’alon was taken to task by Education Minister Naftali Bennett who wondered aloud why in the world Ya’alon was attempting to try the case in public. Even more, Bennett wondered how the soldier can receive a fair hearing given the fact that the “young military prosecutors” are obviously being guided by biased IDF and political officials who are determined to scapegoat the soldier.

Here are Bennett’s comments:

“Two terrorists came to kill civilians. Both were shot and killed and there was a very serious incident. Between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. that Thursday, before the Military Police investigation even began, the entire Israeli leadership in both the opposition and the coalition determined that the soldier committed a crime. Then the case goes to young Military Police investigators, and how can they conduct themselves in an objective way?”

For his part, PM Netanyahu has backed off his original suggestion that the soldier was at fault. Yesterday he expressed solidarity with the family, and said that everyone should wait until the investigation is over before talking.

On that we can all agree. Why Ya’alon, Eisenkot, and the IDF spokesman cannot just keep their mouths shut is incomprehensible.

Sometimes it is amusingly mind-numbing to see how Israel figures in to events taking place worldwide. Take the cases of Lionel Messi and Fidel Castro yesterday.

Lionel Messi, the Argentinian football star of FC Barcelona generally considered the world’s best player, was interviewed Sunday on Egyptian television. During the interview, the interviewer asked Messi if he would donate a pair of his football shoes to charity with the hope that their sale would generate money for impoverished Egyptians.

Messi readily and happily agreed.

However, by yesterday, all of Egypt was up in arms over Messi’s “gesture”–which Egyptians likened to being slapped with a pair of shoes, an egregious insult in Arabic culture. The idiotic feeling among Egyptians is “He gave us shoes to humiliate us.”

By last night, every media outlet was attacking the Barcelona star. And what do you think was the main focus of the attack?

The following picture spread like wildfire around the country–with the caption that Lionel Messi is a Jew.

Of course, Lionel Messi is not a Jew. He is a devout Catholic who crosses himself after every goal that he scores and supports the Catholic Church in a myriad of ways. The above picture was made on a “peace tour” that FC Barcelona made to Israel a few years ago.

Nevertheless, the Egyptians handed Messi the ultimate insult: “He is a Jew.” And even worse, a Jew that prays at the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem. And as a final sign of his Judaism, the Egyptian media pointed out that Messi has named the newest addition to his family “Benjamin”–a “Jewish” name. Some even suggested that Messi named his son after Benjamin Netanyahu.

Unbelievable.

But then we also had 89-year-old Fidel Castro in the news yesterday. As you may or may not know, Castro refused to meet with President Obama on the latter’s recent jaunt to Cuba.

In a lengthy published letter, Fidel outlined his reasons for not meeting Obama–and more specifically why Obama’s visit to Cuba was insulting. Addressed to “Brother Obama”, it looked like this:

This is just to give you a sense of the length of the letter.

In the letter which is based on the theme “We don’t want American help”, Castro castigates Obama for many things including having no concept of “native populations.” He also dwells at length on American evils such as the unsuccessful Bay of Pigs invasion. He then writes an apologia for Cuban action in Angola and elsewhere in Africa (“the struggle for human liberation”).

In fact, Castro nears the conclusion of his letter by including a long, somewhat rambling paragraph about South Africa–I have edited out the section in which Castro rambles:

On the episode of South Africa I must point out another experience. I was really interested in learning more about how the South Africans had acquired nuclear weapons. Only had very precise that did not exceed 10 or 12 bombs information. A reliable source would be the professor and researcher Piero Gleijeses, who had drafted the text “Conflicting Missions: Havana, Washington and Africa 1959-1976”; an excellent job . . .but I had already [reached conclusions] . . .about what was related to that weapon and help that racist South Africa had received from Reagan and Israel.

I do not know what Obama has to say on this story now. I do not know what he or did not know, although it is very doubtful that he knew absolutely nothing. My modest suggestion is to reflect and do not try now to develop theories about Cuban politics.

How did Obama insult Cuba? By not knowing about Israel’s alleged involvement with South Africa.

Israel again.

Everything that is evil in the world and everything that is insulting in the world can be traced to the Jews and to Israel.
