UPDATES 5:00 pm Israel time:

…Palestinian terrorism so far today…

At 12:16 am, incoming rocket sirens sounded across the Eshkol region on the Israel-Gaza border.

Mortar shells then struck an area near the border fence. No Israelis were physically wounded, but who knows how many were traumatized by having to run to bomb shelters and fortified places in the middle of the night. At around 4:30 am, Israeli planes uselessly attacked empty sand dunes just across the border.

…Palestinian terrorism this week…

In the last week (Friday to Friday), there were more than 120 Palestinian terror incidents.

Ten Israelis were wounded:

On Sunday, three Israelis, including a baby, were wounded when their car was hit by “rocks” in Efrat.

On Monday, a 65-year-old Jewish man was stabbed in the back at the Lion’s Gate in Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, three soldiers were run over by a Palestinian terrorist near the Jewish community of Dolev. One remains in critical condition.

On Wednesday, two soldiers were wounded in the Old City of Jerusalem by “rock” throwing terrorists.

On Thursday, an IDF soldier was wounded in another “rock” attack.

…The tunnel that has caused the outbreak of violence…

It was the discovery of this tunnel which extended from Gaza into Israel that has caused Hamas to begin shelling our soldiers and border communities:

A closer look:

The IDF still has no idea where the end of this tunnel is in Gaza.

The IDF still has no idea where the end of this tunnel is in Gaza.

So why is Hamas so afraid about this particular tunnel? For a number of reasons not the least of which are that it is undoubtedly in close proximity to numerous other as yet undiscovered tunnels–and because the tunnel connects to the main tunnel network under Gaza.

…The expected axe is about to fall…

As expected, the Obama Administration is reportedly ready to launch a final diplomatic offensive against Israel in the waning days of the Obama presidency.

In conjunction with the self-called Quartet, the U.S. will:

–harshly attack Israeli “settlement expansion”

–harshly condemn Israel’s demolition of terrorist homes

–harshly blame Israel for the political deadlock

Is any of this new? Not really, the harshness of the criticism may be intensifying, but this is the early years of the Obama presidency relived. Who can forget then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s daily bashing of Israel from 2009 to early 2013 when she left office?

***The Syrian War rages on***

Following a month of successes in the Aleppo area largely due to the increased and indiscriminate Russian bombing of the population, Assad forces have suffered a few setbacks in recent days.

Note Khan Tuman.

Note Khan Tuman.

The area around Khan Tuman (10 km southwest of Aleppo) has seen particularly heavy fighting with rebel forces led by Jabhat Al Nusera making significant gains. In the past few days, various sources have reported that at least 30 soldiers and police officers loyal to Assad have been killed along with 18 Iranians and five Hezbollah militants.

Of more concern to Hezbollah is that an entire contingent of their fighters has “disappeared.”

Because of its location beside the M5 roadway into Aleppo, Khan Tuman has strategic importance to both sides.
