UPDATES 6 pm Israel time

…Palestinian terror so far today (Sunday)…

Shin Bet, Israel’s security service, announced the capture of a 6-man Hamas terror cell based in Bethlehem. The group is responsible for the suicide bombing on Jerusalem Bus 12 last month in which 20 Israeli men, women, and children were wounded.

The six men range in age from 19 to 30 years: Muhammad Sami al-Hameed Al-Ezza, 26, Muhammad Issa Mahmoud Al-Barbari, 26, Muhammad Majdi Mustafa al-Ezza, 21, Ahmed Muhammad Mahmoud Mashaikh, 19, Ali Ahmed Muhammad Arouj, 30, and Said Osama Issa Harmas, 30.

…How low can you go?…

The coordinator of the nauseating Breaking the Silence organization remarked today that “if a Palestinian stabs an IDF soldier, it is not terrorism.”

Breaking the Silence is the group that searches out disgruntled former IDF soldiers and pays them to travel the world trashing the IDF.

…The safest airport in the world…

. . .is none other than Ben Gurion Airport. According to a report today, aviation experts from 40 different countries are coming to Israel next month to find out how Israelis take care of security.

…Speaking of security…

India’s Ministry of Defense has completed the purchase of 1 billion dollars worth of Spike anti-tank guided missile systems. The deal involves the purchase of 275 launchers and 5,500 Spike missiles.

…The price of gasoline rises…

The government has announced that on Wednesday at midnight the price of gasoline will rise by 16 agurot per liter to 6.01 shekels. That’s about $5.90 per gallon at today’s exchange rate of 1$=3.85 shekels.

…A small demonstration in Tel Aviv…

About 400 people demonstrated in Tel Aviv yesterday against the appointment of Avigdor Lieberman as Defense Minister.

Who were the protesters?

Do you notice any flag missing in the demonstration (such as an Israeli flag). The only flags you see are PLO flags and red Communist flags.

…Off again, on again…

A few days ago, we reported that the various investigations of Sarah Netanyahu had led to nothing, and the police were not going to recommend prosecution.

What a difference a couple of days make.

Today, the new word is that the police are going to recommend that Sarah be prosecuted for fraud concerning the recycled bottles, garden furniture, and electrician “scandals.”

Unbelievable.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Another day another government crisis.

Just when you thought that the Coalition had expanded and stabilized, along comes Naftali Bennett and his Jewish Home party with a demand–a demand that Bennett says Netanyahu must agree to or he (Bennett) will lead Jewish Home out of the Coalition.

Specifically, Bennett wants a military secretary to be supplied to members of the government’s security cabinet. Previous experiences, especially during the wars with Hamas and Hezbollah, have shown that the Security Cabinet is often operating in the dark without knowing the most up-to-date military information.

What has happened is that important information is funneled to the Defense Minister and the Prime Minister–but to nobody else, unless the Prime Minister decides to do so.

To make a long story short, Bennett is absolutely correct–the security cabinet should have a military secretary to inform all members. Numerous other leaders in the security establishment agree.

However, in your humble servant’s opinion, Bennett’s timing is all wrong. At precisely the moment that Jewish Home should be solidifying its position in the new government, instead it is threatening to break it apart.

For her part, Bennett’s colleague Ayelet Shaked said today that Jewish Home is not afraid of new elections and will demand new elections if Bennett’s demand is not met.

Well, Jewish Home should be afraid.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Jewish Home stands to lose on all accounts if Netanyahu does not agree to install a military secretary. Specifically, Bennett will be out as Education Minister, Shaked out as Justice Minister, and Ariel out as Agriculture Minister.

What in the world is Bennett thinking about?
