UPDATES 9 am Israel time
…Palestinian terror unreported by the mainstream media yesterday…
“Rock” attacks occurred at more than 20 locations including: Hevron, Duma, Benjamin Square, Hawara, Gush Etzion, Anun, the Husan Bypass road, Beit Ummar, Dura, and the Shuafat Train stop in Jerusalem.
Molotov firebombs were thrown at Israeli men, women, and children at numerous locations including: Shuqba, Halhul, and Beit Ummar. In the latter instance, a bus caught on fire and had to be evacuated.
Two bulldozer attacks targeted Israelis: one at Neve Daniel, the other at the entrance to Efrat. At least 4 IDF soldiers were wounded in the two attacks.
Terrorists opened fire at several vehicles near the Tapuach (Apple) Junction.
…In memory of Hallal…
Rina Ariel, the mother of Hallal Ariel who was butchered in her sleep last week in Kiryat Arba, has called on Israelis to join the Ariel family in going to the Temple Mount next Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.
Will the Jerusalem Police allow Jews to go to the Temple Mount? Probably not. But your humble servant plans to be there.
…Tourism to Israel ticks upward…
After a long period following the 2014 war with Palestinian Gaza in which tourism to the country slightly dropped, the last six months have seen a decided upsurge.
Statistics gathered from January to May of this year show a number of significant increases–especially from Asian countries in which Israel is focusing its tourism marketing efforts.
Among those increases were:
Taiwan: up 140%
China: up 40%
Singapore: up 33%
Other countries that saw rises were India (up 20%) and the United States (up 5%). In the case of the U.S., the actual numbers went from 54,640 American tourists between January and May 2015 to 57,385 American tourists during the same period this year.
What were the favorite tourist destinations in Israel in 2015?

…Missile drills have been completed…
For the past three months, Israel and the U.S. have been conducting missile drills whose primary purpose is to integrate various missile defense weapons that each country has at its disposal.
The tests were based in Israel but took place not only here but also in the United States and Europe.
The integration involved the U.S. Aegis Combat System, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System, and the Patriot Missile System–and the Israeli Arrow 3, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome defenses.
As part of the exercises, the IAF has taken over permanent operational control of the David’s Sling system which is now slated to go into mass production.
David’s Sling, also known as Magic Wand, is “designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles, fired at ranges from 40 km (24.85 miles) to 300 km (186.41 miles).”*
TODAY’S BLOG:
PM Netanyahu continued his trip through Africa yesterday with a stop in Rwanda where he laid a wreathe at the Kilgali Genocide Memorial where 250,000 Rwandans killed in the massacres of 1994 are buried in a mass grave. The Memorial was built with the help of Israelis from Yad Vashem.
He wrote in the guestbook:
“We are deeply moved by the memorial to the victims of one of history’s greatest crimes – and reminded of the haunting similarities to the genocide of our own people. Never again.”
Later in the day, Netanyahu commented:
“. . . incitement and brainwashing and hatred always precede mass murder, and that it must be stopped . . . no one will defend you if you don’t defend yourself . . . we have to have the capacity to defend ourselves by ourselves. This is the most important lesson of the genocide that we have suffered, and of the one you have suffered.”
How true.
Also true were the words that Netanyahu uttered at a press conference in the evening when asked about the State Department rant that we described on this blog yesterday:
“I know the U.S. position. It is not new, not acceptable to us. Building in Jerusalem and Ma’aleh Adumim is, with all due respect, not distancing the peace. [The obstacle to peace is the] continuous incitement against the existence of Israel in any borders, and it is time that the nations of the world recognize that simple truth.”
The simple truth is that “that simple truth” is recognized by many nations of the world–the same ones who support boycotts against Israel and who support continuous resolutions against Israel in the United Nations and European Union.
These nations do not accept the existence of Israel in any borders–and work tirelessly to delegitimize Israel out of existence.
