UPDATES  8 am Israel time:

…Palestinian terror yesterday unreported in the mainstream media…

An IDF soldier was stabbed at a Samarian checkpoint (8:16 pm); residents of Hebron Hills had their vehicles firebombed in an effort to burn them alive (9:06 pm); a bus was attacked with “rocks” on the road between Hebron and Kiryat Arba (10:30 pm.

More Israeli motorists were wounded in “rock” attacks at the Yitzhar Junction near Hawara (7:58 pm), Ma’ale Adumim (5:33 pm), Hizma (3:40 pm), and Adam Square  (2:15 pm).

Meanwhile, Israeli security forces were attacked at Qalandiya, in Ras Al Amud, and on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

…What really happened in the Olympics (according to the Palestinians)…

The Arab world’s discussion of the refusal of losing Egyptian judoka, Islam El Shehaby, to shake the hand of winning Israeli judoka Ori Sasson has quickly entered the realm of the absurd.

No more so than in the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds, which published this revisionist cartoon about what actually took place.

In the Palestinian version of events, a hulking and scowling Sasson stands over the Egyptian who is holding an olive branch of peace.

In the Palestinian version of events, a hulking and scowling Sasson stands over the Egyptian who is holding an olive branch of peace.

Of course, it comes as no surprise that the Palestinians would do this because they do it all the time as they attempt to claim Jewish history as their own.

…2 potentially disastrous developments in Area C…

In the first, following threats from the United States, our ever-courageous PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Lieberman have “delayed” the destruction of the illegal Palestinian homes at Sussiya.

They don’t have any problem approving the destruction of legal Jewish homes, but when it comes to illegal Palestinian homes, our government leaders are just garden-variety cowards.

This is a disastrous precedent which will allow an estimated 10,000 illegal Palestinian homes built in Area C (by the European Union and U.S.) to remain standing and become firmly entrenched in the landscape of the area.

In the second, Yedioth Aharnot military correspondent Alex Fishman has reported that Defense Minister Lieberman has signed on to a plan that would hand over authority for all zoning and land issues in Area C to the PLO.

Apparently this utterly disastrous plan was cooked up by the IDF General Staff several years ago led by the head of COGAT, but was resisted by then Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon. Now Lieberman has agreed to this handover of Israeli sovereignty–for the preposterous reason that Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO must be propped up by Israeli in advance of the October election between the PLO and Hamas.

Let’s sincerely hope that forces within the coalition including Naftali Bennett and members of Netanyahu’s own Likud party will be able to thwart this move.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Your humble servant has been out and about since my last blog before Tisha B’Av.

From the website of the Women in Green.

From the website of the Women in Green.

For the fifth consecutive year, my wife and I walked with thousands of others in the Women in Green’s march around the Old City of Jerusalem on Saturday night. It was an exhilarating experience as always–and as always, we felt like we were doing some small bit for Israeli sovereignty over the entire city.

Also, for the 33rd consecutive August, my wife and I visited Eilat. It was actually fairly cool–the top temperature on Friday was about 115 degrees F with a steady wind of about 20 mph.

While sitting at Chof Almog (Coral Beach), we had two very interesting young couples come and sit beside us.  They were thoroughly Israeli; each family had two pre-school children; each mother was clad in a bikini; and each father was the usual sort of guy.

The kids played on a mat that was put down on the sand–and happily played a game in which they practiced counting seashells. In Hebrew.

I mention “in Hebrew” because the couples were Israeli-Arabs. More specifically, Christian Israeli-Arabs. They live in Be’er Ora which is located about 20 km north of Eilat near Tinma where the new Eilat airport is being constructed.

One of the mothers is a high school Arabic teacher, but she prefers to speak with her kids in Hebrew because “they need to know the language of the country.”

What did we talk about for the next few hours? Mainly the weather and children.

After all, what else is there to talk about?

And all in all, what a wonderful weekend in Israel!
