Repeated requests by the residents for police action have gone unheeded.

…Security forces raid Palestinian arms production centers…

It was announced in the evening yesterday that early Tuesday morning Israeli security forces carried out raids in the Hevron and Bethlehem areas which uncovered 7 weapons factories.

Within these factories, were 54 machine guns and 22 lathes for building weapons.

This brings to 29 the number of terrorist weapons factories discovered so far this year in Judea and Samaria.

…Potential ecological disaster in Eilat…

Late last night, more than 200 tons of crude oil leaked out of a gas pipeline at the port of Aqaba, Jordan which is a few hundred meters across Eilat Bay from Eilat down on the Red Sea.

In addition to marine animals at risk because of the spill, the corals along the Israeli coast which had been making somewhat of a comeback in recent years are now endangered as well.

As of this hour, the Jordanian government has rebuffed offers of help from Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Environment. Let’s earnestly hope that the spill can be contained.

And to think that your humble servant was scuba-diving in these waters just 10 days ago.

…More time off for IDF soldiers…

According to guidelines released yesterday, the IDF Personnel Directorate now says that soldiers will have the possibility of 23 days off per year. This includes 18 days off for holidays and another 5 days of leave at the discretion of a soldier’s commanding officer.

…What newcomers to Israel are buying housing units (primarily apartments) in Israel and where are they moving to?…

Actually, most new citizens to Israel rent apartments once they arrive; during the last two years only about 2000 apartments have been sold. Of these 2000, 3% were purchased by Australians, 5% by Belgians, 6% Swedes and Danish, 10% Italians, 11% British, 16% Canadian, 18% American, and 28% French.

And where are they going? The French head to Netanya and Ashdod; the Americans and Canadians to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Herzliya; the Aussies to Eilat.

Riots erupted in Shechem (Nablus) yesterday and will likely continue into today and beyond. Security forces were stoned, and business storefronts had their windows shattered.

The riots are in protest of the death of Ahmed Halaweh a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade who died after being taken into custody several days ago.

Halaweh, who was arrested for his alleged role in the deaths of two policemen, was beaten to death in Junaid Prison according to Akram Al-Rijoub, the Palestinian governor of Shechem.

How many Palestinian prisoners--foes of the PLO and Mahmoud Abbas--have died in this house of horrors?

Junaid Prison: how many Palestinian prisoners–foes of the PLO and Mahmoud Abbas–have died in this house of horrors?

Oh and did I forget to mention . . .

Halaweh was beaten to death by Palestinian (PLO) policemen, cohorts of the Palestinian policemen who were killed in the Casbah of Shechem several days ago.

Oh yes, and those security forces that you see in the picture at the head of today’s blog who are patrolling in Shechem are PLO “security forces.”

Mahmoud Abbas-proclaimed Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said this morning that an investigation would be launched to determine the cause of Halaweh’s death–which according to Hamdallah “remains unclear.”

Mahmoud Abbas, the self-proclaimed “President of Palestine”, has had nothing to say about the incident which is internecine to say the least. After all, the PLO policemen who beat Halaweh to death are PLO members of Fatah–as was Halaweh as a member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade.

Your humble servant wonders if the news of Halaweh’s death will make it to the international media?
