UPDATES  8 am Israel time:

…Palestinian terror unreported in the mainstream media…

Between Friday and Saturday night, more than 30 terror attacks were launched against Israelis by Palestinian terrorists.

From sniper fire emanating from Gaza at Kibbutz Nahal Oz to numerous “rock” and Molotov firebomb attacks, Israelis did not have a peaceful Shabbat.

Some of the locations where attacks took place include Nili, Ariel Square, Hawara, the Dor Alon gas station on Road 443, Silwad, Abu Dis, Dekko, Al Fawwar, Hizma, Qalandiya, Bethel, Shiloh, Husan, Hevron, Deir Abu Mashal, Efrat, Malik, Issawiya, and Shuafat.

…Why in the world…

Can you believe that Israel is even suggesting that it might allow representatives of the International Criminal Court to “visit” Gaza and Israel.

For what?

So that the ICC can issue more reports condemning Israel? So that the ICC can delegitimize Israel?

Why should we aid our enemies?

…An unsettling statistic…

It was revealed this morning that more than 5000 Israelis die in Israeli hospitals each year from infections they get in the hospital from bacteria and pollutants.

It is not surprising.

Your humble servant spent considerable time with his mother-in-law in Rehovot’s Kaplan Hospital this past weekend and was astonished by the poor conditions there.

Bathrooms with no soap dispensers; nurses going from patient to patient with no gloves; easy access into and out of the isolation ward; no hand sanitizers to be seen anywhere except on the end of patients’ beds; 3 patients crowded into one room with who knows what sickness, etc.

Basically, anyone can wander around the hospital anywhere, and anyone can bring anything into the hospital.

It’s miraculous that only 5000 die from hospital-originated sicknesses each year.

TODAY’S BLOG:

All of the news in Israel this morning is about the train fiasco in Israel.

In essence, tens of thousands of train passengers, particularly those who travel on trains between Tel Aviv and Haifa, have no train to travel on.

How this latest mess started is a question of whom you ask, but the general line of thinking is probably right and goes like this:

1.  Long-time Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz–who is extremely popular within the Likud Party and the general public–took over the grassroots leadership of Likud last year. This did not endear him to PM Netanyahu who looks at everyone as a potential rival for the leadership of the country.

2. Infrastructure work needs to be done on some of the country’s railways. Specifically there are 21 projects underway. An agreement was reached between the orthodox parties and the rest of the Coalition involved with transportation (namely, Netanyahu and Katz) that no work would be done on Shabbat except the most essential work which is related to life and death situations.

3. Nevertheless, Katz apparently gave his approval for work to proceed on all projects on Shabbat.

4. The orthodox members of the Coalition, particularly United Torah Judaism and Shas, exploded in anger and threatened to leave the government if any work took place on Shabbat.

5. No work took place yesterday.

6. We are in the mess we are this morning.

What will happen next is anyone’s guess. Secular protesters turned out in large numbers in Tel Aviv last night to protest the fact that work was not taking place on Shabbat. Netanyahu has embarked on a Facebook war with Katz accusing him of deliberately undermining the government. Some of Netanyahu’s cohorts are urging him to fire Katz–while others are demanding that Katz remain.

Will Katz stay or go?

Will work take place on Shabbat or not?

Will the Coalition fall apart?

Stay tuned as the events play out today.
