UPDATES  8 am Israel time:

…Palestinian terror unreported in the mainstream media…

Palestinian terrorists carried out more than 20 attacks yesterday. Most of them were “rock” assaults at such places as Gush Etzion, Hizma, Sinjil, Issawiya, Mt. Hevron, Makel, Route 443 near Modi’in, and Hawara.

In fact, there have been so many “rock” attacks emanating from Hawara that the IDF blockaded the main entrance and exit from the settlement yesterday.

In addition, Palestinians fired on an IDF force on the northern Gaza border near Beit Hanoun, and other terrorists set fires near the community of Michmash in the Benjamin region.

…Finally, some good news for Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria…

Following a rash of Civil Administration destruction of Jewish homes over the weekend, including the Mitzpe Avihai tent community put up in honor of slain Hallal Yaffa Ariel and a home belonging to an elite soldier in Esh Kodesh, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has announced a change in the process of home destruction.

Instead of the Civil Administration having sole authority to carry out such actions, it will now be under the direction of Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan who is a member of Jewish Home (Beit Yehudi) party.

This will produce a sea change in Judea and Samaria.

A staunch opposer of such demolitions, Eli Ben-Dahan will be sure to put the brakes on such destruction.

…The Kineret (Sea of Galilee) sinks even lower…

A new "island" has popped up in the Kineret as the water level goes down.

A new “island” has popped up in the Kineret as the water level goes down.

As of yesterday, the Kineret had dropped 4.57 meters below its “normal” water level–almost a meter below the “lower red line.”

To put it a different way, the lake is suffering from one of the worst water shortages in memory. Between the lack of rainfall in the region and the absurd amount being pumped out for use in Israel and Jordan, the Kineret’s viability is being called into question.

How long will it be until the Kineret becomes the new Dead Sea?

…By the way, one result of the drop in the Kineret…

Ottoman artillery shells discovered on the "new" beach on the Kineret.

Ottoman artillery shells discovered on the “new” beach on the Kineret.

Has been the discovery of 50 mm 40 lb shells dating back to the Ottoman era–any one of which could explode at any time.

…Remarkable news from the Temple Mount Sifting Project…

Two of my family members hard at work at two sifting stations.

Two of my family members hard at work at two sifting stations.

For those of us who have participated in the Sifting Project, the news yesterday was astonishing. For the first time, archaeologists have been able to piece together tiles from the floor of the Second Temple–the Temple that was destroyed in 70 CE.

Participants in the project know that the sifting project is incredibly detailed as sifters sift through tons of dirt dumped over the side of the Temple Mount. The dirt came from illegal digging on the Mount by the Islamic Wakf.

The dirt itself is brought bucket by bucket to the sifting area where it is sifted tray by tray. If one is lucky, like your humble servant was the last time he was there (anyone can volunteer), he can find tiny bits of tile in the muck. The tiny piece I found was painted in an extraordinary light blue color.

templefloorThe announcement yesterday revealed that 7 different “opus sectile” patterns (one of them is to the left) have been pieced together. When you consider the time and effort that went into discovering these patterns, it is simply astonishing. Kolakevod to all of the sifters and to the archaeologists who are bringing the Second Temple to life!

TODAY’S BLOG:

Remember the Palestinian elections that were supposed to take place on October 8th? The elections in which all Palestinians were finally going to be permitted to vote by the unelected President of Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria, Mahmoud Abbas?

Over the last month, why Abbas would permit such elections has been a source of intense speculation given the fact that Hamas would almost win a popular vote.

Yesterday, the reason became clear.

It turns out that Abbas has already partially won the election.

Yes, you read that correctly. Even thought the election is a month away, Abbas can lay claim to a partial victory.

The Palestinian Central Elections Commission declared yesterday that Abbas’ Fatah party has already won 136 municipal elections even though no one has voted.

How is this possible you ask?

Because “consensus lists” were submitted from those 136 “municipalities”, consensus lists formed by Fatah party elites. The presence of a “consensus list” means that no voting will actually take place in these areas.

To put it a different way, the election has been rigged.

Most of the “municipalities” reporting yesterday are actually rural villages and encampments, but you can be sure that whatever voting takes place on October 8th will be just as corrupt as what was announced yesterday.
