Help! Help! Is There A Doctor In The House? Mahmoud Abbas Is Depressed

UPDATE: More rock throwing assaults and suspected arson overnight.

Mahmoud Abbas in a typical pose.

Maybe you remember the old Rascals’ song from the 1960s:

I was feelin’ . oh . so bad, I asked my family doctor just what I had,
I said, “Doctor, . . . Mr. M.D., . . .
Now can you tell me, tell me, tell me, What’s ailin’ me?”
He said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah . . . . . (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah). . . . .Yes, indeed, all you really need . . is good lovin’ . . . Gimme that good, good lovin . .

Mahmoud Abbas is not feeling the love.

Like a spoiled child, throwing an attention seeking tantrum for the thousandth time, Abbas has let it be known that he is dejected and depressed, and is thinking about resigning.

It was reported yesterday in Haaretz that Israel has “received reports recently of Abbas’ dejected mood from a number of Western diplomats . . .[and that] this week’s prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas had made Abbas even more depressed.”

Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin, who has been shuttling back and forth between Abbas and Netanyahu in a mediation attempt this week, told Netanyahu that “Abbas was in a particularly gloomy mood and sounded despondent during their talk.” More than this, Holguin related to Netanyahu that “Abbas had threatened to resign if there was no progress over the next three months either in the admission of Palestine as a UN member or in negotiations with Israel.”

And what did Holguin say would end Abbas’ depression and stop him from resigning? Concessions from Israel.

And why should anyone care if Abbas resigns or not? Because of the idiotic belief in the West that Abbas is somehow more moderate than people who might replace him. This is the same Abbas who in 2008 turned down the most generous peace offer that Israel has ever made, and was at the podium last Tuesday praising released Palestinian murderers for their “hard work and sacrifice that will not go in vain” when ‘Palestine’ retakes Jerusalem (virtually the same speech Islamic Terrorist Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh simultaneously gave in Gaza).

Listening to Abbas is like watching a bad comedy that is stuck in a neverending loop.

On February 8, 2005, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

On January 20, 2006, it was reported that Mahmoud Abbas was “depressed” and “might resign” (see article).

On May 5, 2008, the Associated Press reported that Abbas was “depressed” and was threatening “to quit” (see article).

On November 6, 2009, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

On July 9, 2010, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

On September 18, 2010, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

On October 7, 2010, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

On December 4, 2010, Mahmoud Abbas threatened to resign (see article).

And a hundred more times before, after, and in between.

It was in this context that PM Netanyahu told Holguin not to be concerned about Abbas; this was not the first time the Palestinian president had threatened to resign and it wouldn’t be the last.

Isn’t it time for the world to stop babying the Palestinians like spoiled children and demand that they grow up, make concessions to Israel, and get on with their lives?
