It might be worthwhile to review the last month of events on the Israel-Jordan front.
1. Israel absurdly granted permission for Prince Abdullah to come to the Temple Mount to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The absurdity was that Abdullah was coming to consolidate Jordanian power at the Temple Mount–holiest place in Judaism.
2. Israel then denied Prince Abdullah’s visit because the Jordanians did not follow the security protocol that had been established for the trip.
3. Then the Jordanians denied Netanyahu permission to travel to the U.A.E. via Amman (no one has ever explained why a different routing could not have been taken).
4. Next, Netanyahu closed Israeli airspace to Jordanian commercial aircraft. Almost immediately he rescinded the closure.
All of which brings us to two weeks ago.
At that time, the Joint Israeli-Jordanian Water Committee met in its annual meeting--a meeting at which the Jordanians always ask Israel for an amount of water beyond that which Israel regularly supplies to Jordan.
In the past, Israel has immediately acceded to each request (why we have always done this is beyond comprehension given the continual droughts in Israel). However, two weeks ago, Israel did not respond to the request.
This morning, after the Biden Administration in form of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinkin intervened, Israel kowtowed to the Jordanians yet again.
Two observations:
First, as we have continually pointed out here at OneIsrael, Jordan is no friend of Israel. King Abdullah under the guise of being a “moderate” pursues a stridently anti-Israel agenda focused on spreading Jordanian control over the Temple Mount.
In every international venue, Jordan attacks Israel and pushes resolutions condemning our country. The Jordanians do this while we let them deplete our most prized natural resource, the Kineret (Sea of Galilee). Year after year, the Kineret drops to dangerously low levels because of water being shipped to Jordan.
Second, what on earth gives the U.S. the right to pressure Israel to give our water to the Jordanians. The simple fact is that we are about to have four years in which the Biden Administration will have no compunction whatsoever about demanding that Israel give away everything from its water to its land.
That we just folded on the water demand bodes poorly for the future.
