Horrific Terror Attack in Beersheva: 4 Dead

More information on the victims of the horrible attack in Beersheva today. Initial reports were incorrect–in fact, two women and two men were brutally murdered:
*Dorit Yahavs (also spelled “Yachbas”) was the wife of an officer in the Israel Prison Service.
*Laura Yitzhak, age 43, was the woman who put up a heroic fight as she was being stabbed to death at the gas station. She is survived by her husband and 3 daughters (6,12, 14).
*The third victim was 67 year-old Menachem Yehezkel of Beersheva.
*The fourth victim was Chabad Rabbi Moshe Kavitsky who ran a synagogue in Beersheva and ran Chabad’s soup kitchen for elderly and poor people. He was the father of 4 children (aged 10-22).

Update 10:00 pm Israel time
*One of the women who were stabbed to death has been identified. She was Dorit Yahavs, 49, from Moshav Gilat, the mother of three children. May her memory be blessed.
*One of the paramedics who came to treat the wounded discovered that one of the dead women was his aunt.
*The citizen who ultimately stopped the terrorist is from Asael, a young Jewish community at Mt. Hevron. Following the incident, he was summoned to the Beersheva Police Station where police tried to confiscate his gun. He refused to leave the station without it.
*In addition to the 4 dead, two more are in serious condition at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva.

It was another totally avoidable terror attack this afternoon set in motion by a slack Israeli judicial system.
The terrorist was a 34-year-old Bedouin Arab-Israeli from the Bedouin town of Hura who had been a teacher at a girls’ high school and an imam at the Hamza Mosque. An avowed supporter of ISIS, he had recently been released after being in prison for 5 years for trying to join ISIS fighters in Syria.
Why was he only in prison for 5 years?
Why was he released?
Why wasn’t he squarely in the crosshairs of police?
The terrorist arrived at the gas station on Dereck Hevron Street this afternoon at 4:15 pm, got out of his car and stabbed a woman. Click here to see the gas station video of the horrific attack. He then proceeded to the nearby “One” commercial center where he rammed a bicycle rider with his vehicle. Then he got out of his car and stabbed several other people.
Finally, he was shot and killed by a bus driver at the scene and another bystander. But even as he was on the ground dying, he picked up his knife again. Click here to see.
The dead include three women (one in her 30s and two in their 40s) and a man of about 60.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
