Barak and Gantz: the architects of our IDF

Ehud Barak’s lapdog, IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, issued the following statement yesterday to the IDF as he saw fit to jump on the “Let’s memorialize Yitzhak Rabin” bandwagon that has swept Israel in the last week:

“We denounce extremism and should continue to walk along the road to peace and security in light of the ethical and professional testament of Rabin. Rabin will serve as a beacon for all of us facing the challenges of the period and changes in the strategic map.”

There you have in a nutshell everything that is wrong with our failed IDF leadership:

1. “We denounce extremism”: The IDF General Staff is more focused on Jewish community members in Judea and Samaria than on Palestinian terrorists in Ramallah and Gaza. Is it extreme for Jewish community members to defend themselves in the absence of police and IDF protection–and in the presence of overt attempts by the police and IDF to cover up crimes committed by Palestinian terrorists? Your humble servant thinks not.

2. “and should continue to walk along the road to peace and security in light of the ethical and professional testament of Rabin”: Is the road specified by Rabin really the road to peace and security (see yesterday’s blog)? And since when does Rabin exemplify ethics and professionalism?  A rhetorical question: does Benny Gantz sound more like our military chief or a politician on the Israel political left?

3. “Rabin will serve as a beacon for all of us facing the challenges of the period and changes in the strategic map”: Why in the world is Rabin our beacon? And is it Gantz’s place to talk about “changes in the strategic map”?

Do you begin to understand a little bit, dear reader, the mindset of our IDF General Staff that continually makes excuses for the terrorists in Ramallah and Gaza?  Theirs is the mindset of Yitzhak Rabin who did everything he could to turn Palestinian thugs into partners for peace–all to no avail.

THIS DATE IN ISRAELI HISTORY

November 10, 1975 was the infamous day that the United Nations General Assembly approved Resolution 3379 equating Zionism with racism. This resolution stayed on the United Nations’ books until it was repealed 16 years later in December 1991 by Resolution 4686.

VOCABULARY NOTES

British Foreign Secretary William Hague cravenly announced on Monday that Britain would abstain from a UN Security Council vote on Palestinian membership in the United Nations.

Notice his absurd use of language:

“In common with France and in consultation with our European partners, the United Kingdom will abstain on any vote on full Palestinian membership of the UN. We reserve the right to recognize a Palestinian state bilaterally at a moment of our choosing and when it can best help bring about peace.”

Let’s restate that in plain English:

After talking with other equally cowardly Europeans, the United Kingdom and France are announcing that we lack the courage to take a principled stand against full Palestinian membership in the United Nations and have decided to take the easy way out and abstain. However, Arab countries in general, and the Muslim residents of our country in particular, should not be angry with us because we will soon recognize a Palestinian state.
