Another Great CUFI Night To Honor Israel!

UPDATE 7 pm Monday: At 2:54, the Border Police arrested 5 Palestinians who had been rioting support of a “rock” thrower in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Al-Tur.

TODAY’S BLOG:

A small part of the cheering crowd in the upper section last night.

After months of fighting against the BDSers, the so-called “peace” and “human rights” activists, and all those who seek to delegitimize and even eradicate Israel, there was something distinctly comforting last night about being at an event with several thousand passionately enthusiastic, flag waving, Israeli supporters.

Another view of the crowd.

Your humble servant was in Sacramento, California as the guest of CUFI, Christians United For Israel–an organization that now has more than 1,000,000 members. In the past two years, CUFI has begun to focus on American universities because of the rising tide of anti-Semitism and Israel hatred on campus. From 10 university and college chapters several years ago, there are now 100 U.S. CUFI chapters on American campuses, and 200 more are in the process of creation.

Israeli dancing in the aisles!

Speakers at the event included Rabbi Reuven Taff of the conservative Mosaic Law Synagogue in Sacramento who gave a rousing speech detailing his deep ties with Israel; the Consul General of Israel for the Pacific Northwest, Akiva Tor who spoke about the current situation in the Middle East; and Holocaust survivor Irving Roth who emotionally recounted his incredible and tragic experiences in Auschwitz and Birkenau.

The keynote speaker was Gary Bauer, president of the non-profit organization American Values and  member of the Executive Board of CUFI. Bauer delivered a passionate defense of Judeo-Christian values focusing on how those values are the basis of American and Israeli democracy–and democracies throughout the world–and a passionate criticism of Islamist values.  His speech was punctuated by standing applause from audience members who were waving American and Israeli flags.

From beginning to end, it was heartwarming to be a part of that audience, wave my Israeli flags–and to just know that I was among Jewish and Christian friends of Israel.

CUFI concludes every meeting by asking those in attendance to sign the Israel pledge:

We believe that the Jewish people have a right to live in their ancient land of Israel, and that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of this historic right.

We maintain that there is no excuse for acts of terrorism against Israel and that Israel has the same right as every other nation to defend her citizens from such violent attacks.

We pledge to stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel and to speak out on their behalf whenever and wherever necessary until the attacks stop and they are finally living in peace and security with their neighbors.

It is a pledge well worth taking whether you are a member of CUFI or not.
