Why Doesn’t The World Cry Out in Protest About Muslim Desecration Of Judaism’s Holiest Place?

UPDATE 7 am Israel time Friday:

The last 24 hours has seen increasing violence on the border between southern Israel and Gaza. On Thursday afternoon, a Palestinian terrorist sniper attempted to kill an Israeli farmer on a tractor beside Kibbutz Nir Oz. The windshield was shattered but the farmer escaped injury.  At around the same time, Hamas terrorists fired a mortar shell into the Eshkol regional council area attempting to kill Israel men, women, and children.

Following these events, terrorists started a fire near the Gaza security fence. When Israeli firefighters arrived on the scene, they came under fire from snipers in Gaza. The IDF responded with tank fire.

Last night, there was yet another sniping incident involving a farmer at Nir Oz. When an IDF attachment arrived on the scene, Palestinian terrorists detonated an IED device beside an IDF vehicle and fired mortar shells at the soldiers. None were injured.

Outside of Israel, the situation in Egypt continues to degrade with the Egyptian Supreme Court dissolving the recently elected lower house of Parliament on the basis of the elections being unconstitutional and ruling that Ahmed Shafiq, Mubarak’s last Prime Minister, is eligible to run for President. At the same time, the ruling military council has issued an order enabling the arrests of “those threatening the public order.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

As you know dear reader, because of Moshe Dayan’s ridiculous surrender of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to the Islamic Wakf in 1967, Israel finds itself in the absurd position of having no idea what the Islamic Wakf is doing at Judaism’s holiest site. No idea, that is, unless the Wakf itself publicizes such activities.

Yesterday, the Wakf released information to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)–which happens to be one of the most virulently anti-Israel bodies on the planet having recently admitted “Palestine” as a country under its jurisdiction (even though the United Nations itself has not done so).

According to the plans submitted to UNESCO, the Wakf is in the process of:

1. restoring the plastering and mosaics inside the Dome of the Rock

2. laying a lead sheet over the roof of the Al-Aqsa Mosque

3. renovating the Khanatanya School and Library below the Al-Aqsa Mosque

4. creating a Center for the Restoration of Islamic Manuscripts of the Haram al-Sharif under the Dome of the Rock–funded by $1.2 million dollars from Norway.

5. safeguarding, refurbishing, and revitalizing the Islamic Museum of Haram al-Sharif and its Collections with a $1.3 million dollar grant from Saudi Arabia

Do you know what these Israeli archaeologists are doing? Sifting through rubble for artifacts from the First and Second Jewish Temples dumped by the Islamic Wakf during its construction under the Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock mosques. Why doesn't the world cry out in protest over Muslim desecration of Judaism's holiest place?

The ridiculous absurdity is that Israel permits the Islamic Wakf to destroy artifacts from the First and Second Jewish Temples under the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosques and in the process to further Islamize the Jewish Temple Mount –and does nothing to stop the Muslims from doing so. At the very least, Israel should file protests with the Jordanian government, the Islamic Wakf, UNESCO, the United Nations, the European Union, Norway, and Saudi Arabia–not out of any hope that the construction will be halted but simply to state that Israel does not accept as a fait accompli the changes that are being made to the Temple Mount status quo.

But instead, pathetically, Israel does nothing.

Not surprisingly, UNESCO reported all of these changes to the Mount without comment, but added a scathing section in its report on Jerusalem condemning Israel for not consulting Jordan about the Mughrabi Bridge and expressing “apprehension” over Israel’s plan to reconstruct the Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue which was blown to pieces by the Jordanian Legion during its ethnic cleansing of the Jewish quarter in 1948. According to UNESCO, such reconstruction might cause “Palestinian rioting.”

In this 1915 photograph of the Jewish Quarter, the beautiful Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue is the large domed building in the upper right. It was dynamited into rubble by the Jordanian legion in 1948 as every Jew was "cleansed" from the Quarter.

All of which causes your humble servant to wonder why Jews around the world are silent about the Temple Mount and why Jews in Israel are not rioting in the street about the Islamic changes taking place there.

By the way, the PLO/Palestinian Authority has announced that it intends to seek UNESCO recognition of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem as a Palestinian World Heritage site “in the country of Palestine.”
