UPDATE 8 am Israel time Wednesday
The most recent so-called “ceasefire” between the Hamas terrorists in Gaza and the IDF continues. At 10:02 pm last night, incoming terrorist rocket warnings were sounded in several communities within a 40 km range of Gaza. Two Grad rocket salvos consisting of a total of 5 rockets struck Netivot. Two of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome system–the other three were not. There are no reports of any IDF response (back to business as usual).
It has been another bizarre 24 hours in Israel and environs–with a host of bizarre statements made by a host of bizarre characters. Here’s a small taste:
1. “Holocaust. Holocaust. Holocaust. Yad Vashem is an organziation that only exists to serve the Zionists. From the beginning, the Zionists wanted the Holocaust, and it has been their political treasure. Holocaust. Holocaust. Holocaust.”
The above rant is from one of the three members of Neturei Karta arrested yesterday morning for writing such things as the following all over the walls of the Israel Holocaust Memorial of Yad Vashem two weeks ago: “Hitler, thanks for the Holocaust”, “The global Zionist mafia.” The graffiti was signed World Ultra-Orthodox Jewry.
Neturei Karta is a small, ultra-orthodox, fiercely anti-Zionist religious sect that burns Israeli flags on Israel Independence Days, attends Holocaust denial celebrations in Tehran, and travels the world giving anti-Israel speeches under the funding and auspices of groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, the Brotherhood’s offshoot the Muslim Student Association, and the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction movement (BDS). As their actions at Yad Vashem and elsewhere show, Neturei Karta is the epitome of evil.
2. “I must mention human rights violations in Syria, and being in Israel, human rights violations in the West Bank.”
These words dribbled yesterday from the mouth of Michael Vernstedt, great nephew of the heroic Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg. Vernstedt had been invited to speak at a seminar at Yad Vashem –and chose the venue (of all places) to castigate Israel.
Immediately afterwards, Dina Porat, chief historian of Yad Vashem, blasted Vernstedt for his illegitimate moral equivalency in comparing the Assad regime’s slaughter of 10,000+ civilians with the supposed mistreatment of people in Judea and Samaria: “The situation in Syria is not a matter of human rights violations, but murder.”
Vernstedt later expressed no regret over his remark but did acknowledge that he has never been to Judea and Samaria–and gets all of his information from the rabidly anti-Israel Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselim. Michael Verstedt is the epitome of ignorance.
3. “The Talmud teaches Jews to destroy everyone who is not a Jew. There are no Zionist drug addicts. They do not exist. This is the proof of Zionist involvement in drug trade.”
This bizarre statement came from the mouth of Iran’s first Vice President Mohammed Reza Rahimi in a speech at an international drug conference in Tehran blaming Judaism for the worldwide drug trade. What else is there to say? Rahimi is the epitome of stupidity.
Neturei Karta, Michael Verstedt, Mohammed Rahmini–what exactly is the nexus between evil, ignorance, and stupidity?
