UPDATE 11 am Israel time Saturday:
Fires continue raging throughout Israel today–particularly at the Ben Shemen forest in central Israel. It has been reported by the head of Israel’s firefighters that most of the fires are “nationalistic” in origin, started by Palestinian terrorist arsonists.
It has always struck your humble servant as odd that the Palestinians, who continually profess to the world that they are “in love” with “the land”, are so willing to burn it down.
What is it about so-called “human rights” groups that they are perfectly happy for Israelis–especially Jews–to be repeatedly attacked and killed with no means of self-defense? What is it about so-called “human rights” groups that they are so eager to undermine and destroy the state of Israel? Why are these so-called “human rights” groups pathologically obsessed with Israel?
Several days ago, a “pro-Palestinian” group*, self-described as “a human rights organization” based in El Cerrito, California near San Francisco, published the names (along with pictures, birthdates, and ID numbers) of 100 “active duty Israeli Air Force pilots” whom it fraudulently slandered as having “apparently participated in war crimes.”
According to the group, the list was obtained from an anonymous source who included a statement–with which the group obviously agrees–of why the pilots’ information should be published: “The well-being of Israel is temporary and can be undermined.”
Note that this reason has nothing to do with the Palestinians, nothing to do with peace, and nothing to do with “human rights”–it is solely to “undermine” the “well-being” of the state of “Israel.”
After absurdly blaming the pilots for “mass destruction” in Gaza, the “West Bank” and Lebanon, the statement concludes: “Please use and spread this information as widely as possible.” To which the so-called “human rights” organization adds: “. . . we recommend its use to gather more information, possibly including questioning and potential prosecution of the named individuals when they travel abroad.”
What is just as sickening is that the group boasts on its website that it is “an accredited NGO of the United Nations”–which is confirmed by a letter written on August 10, 2010 by Wolfgang Grieger, Secretary of the U.N.’s “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.”
More than this, the group lists 30 endorsers–among whom are some of the most virulent anti-Israel people and groups on the planet: the Bay Area and Seattle Women in Black, Noam Chomsky, Conscience International, the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza, Friends of Freedom and Justice-Bilin, the Human Supporters Association, Mairead Maguire Corrigan, Cynthia McKinney, Badil, Palestine Return Centre, Pax Christi Metro New York, San Jose Peace and Justice Center, The Resource Center for Nonviolence, Cindy Sheehan, and Women for Palestine.
Where were these people of “conscience, freedom, justice, peace, and nonviolence” when Hezbollah was kidnapping and killing Israeli soldiers in Israel and launching over 4,000 rockets at northern Israel in 2006? Where were these people of “conscience, freedom, justice, peace, and nonviolence when Palestinians launched 169 suicide/homicide bombers out of the “West Bank” and Gaza blasting to pieces more than 1000 Israeli men, women, and children between 1993-2008? Where were these people of “conscience, freedom, justice, peace, and nonviolence” when Hamas launched almost 9000 missiles at southern Israel between 2001-2009? And where are these people of “conscience, freedom, justice, peace, and nonviolence” right now as Palestinian missiles and mortars continue to rain down on southern Israel everyday–206 in the last 45 days alone?
Let me tell you where they were and are: in “liberal” churches and self-proclaimed “peace and justice” organizations doing everything within their power to allow the attacks against Israelis to continue, and to eliminate the state of Israel altogether. In July alone, the organization being described today was at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco, the Sonoma County Peace and Justice Center, the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists, and the San Jose Peace and Justice Center.
Finally, let me return to one of my original questions: Why are these so-called “human rights” groups pathologically obsessed with Israel–especially in the face of their absolute silence about the real slaughter of the civilian population in such places as Syria and sub-Saharan Africa, and the real trampling of human rights in such places as Iran, China (Tibet), and Russia (Chechnya)?
What causes these groups and individuals to be obsessed with Israel? Only one thing–it is the only Jewish country in the world.
Remember these words: “The well-being of Israel is temporary and can be undermined.” Rarely has the goal of the left wing NGOs, “peace” groups, and “human rights” organizations been so clearly articulated.
