More Palestinian terrorist rockets struck southern Israel last night from early in the evening in the Eshkol region to early this morning in Sha’ar Hanegev. There is no way to calculate the emotional trauma suffered by the people in these attacks.

Today’s blog is necessarily briefer than usual.
Your humble servant returned from Eilat yesterday, and is driving down to Sderot in one hour. We like to do this at least once a year to show solidarity with the residents of that city.
Sderot and its proximity to Gaza (picture courtesy of Google). At its closest point, it is less than a mile (only 840 meters) from the Gaza border.
For those of you who want to follow our route, we will be leaving Ashdod, traveling south down the coastal highway toward Ashkelon, turning left at the Bereykha Junction just before Ashkelon, then down the road a few miles to the east before turning right on the road to Sderot. The trip there should take about 35 minutes.
A few statistics about Sderot:
Population at the end of 2011: 24,000
Average number of Palestinian mortars and missiles that strike in and around Sderot each day: 3
Number of elementary schools and students: 7 schools, 3578 students
Number of high schools and students: 6 schools, 1479 students
Citizens killed in rocket attacks over the last 8 years: 15, including 3 children under the age of 5
Number of Sderot citizens suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) and being treated in Sderot mental health centers: 6,400
The people in Sderot have 15 seconds from the sound of the incoming rocket alarm to reach a bomb shelter.
As your humble servant has stated on numerous occasions in this blog, it is beyond outrageous that the people of Sderot and other communities near the Gaza border are forced to live like prisoners in their bomb shelter cells.
