***Palestinian terror yesterday . . .
Sunday was a day of numerous Palestinian “rock” and Molotov attacks. The roads of Judea and Samaria continue to be death zones in which terrorists attempt to bombard Israeli motorists into crashes and burn them alive.
The terrorist responsible for the murders of Jacob and Natanel Litman on Friday night was captured in Hebron–after being turned in by his father and brother. Why would they turn him in? In their own words, because they did not want their homes to be demolished.
Speaking of which, IDF troops entered lawless Qalandiya early this morning to destroy the house of the terrorist who murdered Danny Gonen. As in previous cases, they were met by a cordon of Palestinian terrorists determined to prevent the demolition. In the ensuing firefight at least three terrorists were killed and more were wounded. There is no word whether the house was razed or not; the situation is still unfolding.
***And so it starts again . . .
A number of Muslim publications in the world this morning are accusing Israel of carrying out the attacks in Paris. As we all know by now, Muslims are never responsible for anything, and Jews are responsible for everything.
It’s just unbelievable.
Meanwhile Israeli Inbal Mesika has produced the following graphic that speaks volumes:
The fight for Ayelet HaShachar shifted into high gear late last night and early this morning. But before we get to the details, you have to understand the complex context.
Ayelet HaShachar is a synagogue that is located in Givat Ze’ev.
Givat Ze’ev, named after Ze’ev Jabotinsky, was established in 1982 off of Road 443 on land which had been used by the Israel military because of its strategic importance. It is 5 kilometers northwest of Jerusalem (on the above map, Ramot is a northern suburb of Jerusalem), and about 2 km from Ramallah.
Today, Givat Ze’ev has a thriving and growing population of more than 15,000.
In the early 1990s the Ayelet HaShachar synagogue was built on land purchased from a Palestinian family in al-Jib, and it has served as a fully functioning synagogue ever since.
In 2007-8, the troubles began. Yesh Din, a ultra-left wing Palestinian advocacy group, petitioned the Supreme Court claiming that documents involved in the purchase of the land were forged.
Last year, seven years later and after numerous contortions, the Israel Supreme Court ruled that the synagogue must be destroyed. Thus began a series of appeals by the congregants of Ayelet HaShachar.
The appeals were rejected. During this past summer, the Court set a demolition date for August. However, PM Netanyahu intervened and asked the court to delay the destruction until October 13 so as not to interfere with the holiday period. The police asked that the court delay the destruction even longer out of fear of retaliatory attacks by Jewish community members.
At the same time, the interim rabbi of the synagogue filed another appeal arguing that the synagogue is protected by international law and cannot be legally demolished. That appeal was rejected and November 17, tomorrow, was set as the new demolition date.
While this may seem by your humble servant’s description so far as a dry, legal matter, it is anything but. All of the religious parties in Netanyahu’s coalition have threatened to leave the government unless a compromise is found. More than this, Naftali Bennett of the Beit Yehudi party has been leading the political charge to stop the demolition.
In the meantime, hundreds of young Jewish community members are now camped out in the synagogue to thwart any attempt to destroy the synagogue, and rabbis from the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria are calling on soldiers to disobey any order which calls on them to be involved in the synagogue destruction. Some soldiers have even started an underground website to thwart the destruction.
So, it should come as no surprise that events have reached a feverish state this morning. Last night saw an all-night meeting between Netanyahu, Bennett, Aryeh Deri (the head of the religious Shas party and Economy Minister), Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, and so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
The outgrowth of that meeting is that the Netanyahu group apparently decided to accept a solution offered by Deri which is to physically pick up the synagogue and move it to a nearby location in Givat Ze’ev which is not “controversial.” Reportedly, Netanyahu is going to petition the Supreme Court for another delay today to let that movement take place. Nevertheless, the rabbi of the synagogue has already declared that the compromise is unacceptable.
And that is where we stand this morning. Will Netanyahu petition? If he does, will the Supreme Court go along and delay the destruction again? Will the Ayelet HaShachar congregation finally go along if a move is ordered?
Stay tuned to find out what happens next.
Rabbi of the synagogue in Givat Ze’ev, Azriel Cohen said today (Sunday) that no agreement was reached regarding the evacuation of the synagogue, “Ayelet Shachar”. Rabbi Cohen said that representatives of the worshipers were not present at the meeting held this morning between the ministers Naftali Bennett, Aryeh Deri and Moshe Ya’alon, Givat Ze’ev Council head Yossi Abhrmi. He also claimed that he concluded with Abraham “only after built a new synagogue turned to the synagogue.”However, contrary conclusion presented by the Ministers, according to which the synagogue demolished as planned, and worshipers will worship temporary place to build a new synagogue on other land.
