***Palestinian terror today.
Your humble servant wishes that he could report that this last day of the year has seen a decrease in the level of Palestinian violence targeting Israeli citizens, but he cannot.
Thus far today, there have been 21 Palestinian attacks. The worst took place at 12:03 pm when a terrorist ran over a 20-year-old IDF soldier at the Hawara Junction–the scene of so many terrorist attacks in the past.
The soldier was moderately wounded and was evacuated by helicopter to a nearby hospital. The terrorist was shot and killed.
In other “rock” and Molotov attacks, terrorists struck cars and buses at Efrat (5:06 pm), Anun (5:05 pm), Uja (3:01 pm), Azun (1:02 pm), Al Hader (12:30 pm), and Beit Horon (10:34 pm)–and these were just the “rock” and Molotov attacks directed against Israelis in vehicles.
Have you heard about any of these attacks in the news you watch, listen to, or read? Of course not.
***Speaking of Palestinian terror attacks . . .
It was announced by the Israeli police today that a major Palestinian attack on a Eilat hotel has been thwarted.
Two Arabs from the Jerusalem area planned to blow up an Eilat hotel that caters to orthodox Jews, but the questions they asked a desk clerk and housekeepers aroused suspicion. The clerk and housekeepers reported their suspicions to hotel management who in turn contacted the police.
***Speaking of Palestinian terrorists . . .
Israel turned over the bodies of 12 terrorists to the PLO in Ramallah two hours ago. These were terrorists who have been killed in stabbing and bulldozer attacks in the last month.
You might ask “why should they be turned over?” And your humble servant would answer “I don’t know.” In my opinion, these bodies should have just rotted where they were.
One thing for sure: there will be dancing and celebrations in the streets of Ramallah tonight–and not for New Year’s Eve.
***The Shin Bet “Duma detainee” and “wedding detainee” fiasco continues . . .
More teenaged detainees have been released and more rounded up. The expected indictment of one or two detainees for the Duma arson has yet to take place–and as we have pointed out in previous blogs, when it does, it will be severely tainted by charges against Shin Bet of coerced confessions.
The primary lawyer representing the detainees ripped into the government again this morning:
“It seems that the Cabinet approved the torture only to save the lost honor of Moshe Ya’alon and other politicians who bragged a few days after the Duma incident that they knew who the perpetrators were. Ya’alon, Shin Bet, and the Supreme Court suddenly arrested 10 young people to justify their boasts.
When the investigation found nothing, cabinet members instructed the Shin Bet to use torture to extort confessions from the innocent detainees. This is an affair of the most serious corruption–the most severe in the country’s history. . .”
TODAY’S BLOG:
The last day of 2015 finds Israel bracing for war with Hezbollah and Hamas.
In the wake of the elimination of Sami Kuntar, the IDF believes that an attack by Hezbollah is inevitable. During the last two weeks, there have been accelerated IDF preparations all along the Lebanese border.
Concrete stanchions have been erected around IDF positions to protect against snipers; swaths of forests have been cleared by bulldozers to make it more difficult for Hezbollah infiltrators; farmers along the border have been ordered to not tend their crops; missile interceptor systems have been moved north; and Haifa and other places in the north have been having civil defense drills.
As for the south, the IDF issued some amazing but unsurprising warnings yesterday. Officers in the Southern Command warned that:
1. Hamas is busy preparing for the next war.
2. Hamas tunnelers have redoubled their efforts to repair existing tunnels and have built more tunnels targeting Israeli communities just across the border.
3. Hamas has dramatically increased missile production. Continuous “experimental” rocket launches into the Mediterranean show that the Egyptian and Israeli blockade of Gaza has not made a dent in the Hamas missile arsenal.
The pathetic joke is that the more Hamas undertakes the above, the more materials pour into Gaza–courtesy of the IDF COGAT unit.
But do you want to know what is really pathetic? On a day which has seen continued Palestinian terrorism and warnings of impending attacks in the north and south, the number one news story on the Israeli television tonight has been–hold your breath–Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein’s unending investigation into Sarah Netanyahu’s recycled bottle money.
Such is the nature of Israel on December 31, 2015.
