PALESTINIAN TERROR OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING
*An Israeli motorist was wounded by gunfire aimed at his car near Shuqba at about 1 am this morning. The attack occurred in the western Binyamin area near the Ofarim Checkpoint.
The terrorists escaped; the Israeli man remains hospitalized at Tal Hashomer.
*An attempted stabbing has just taken place at the Qalqilya checkpoint. Border Guards were able to subdue the terrorist before anyone was wounded.
*Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired three mortars early this morning at an IDF patrol working the area near the Border Fence. No soldiers were wounded; the IDF responded with tank fire at a Hamas position in an empty field.
*In what can only be described as a remarkably successful operation, an IDF group from the Judea Brigade discovered the largest weapon factory ever discovered in Judea and Samaria overnight. 12 lathes along with numerous machine guns, rifles, handguns, and thousands of bullets were found in the basement of a house in the southern part of Hevron.
Since January 1 2016, the IDF has discovered and destroyed 40 Palestinian weapons productions factories.

The Annexation Movement Grows:
A.B. Yehoshua Climbs Onboard
In case you are unfamiliar with A.B. Yehoshua, he is one of the most renowned of Israeli authors. Often described as the “Israeli Faulkner”, Yehoshua has won every Israeli award for literature: the Brenner Prize, the Alterman Prize, the Bialik Prize, and the Israeli Prize for Literature. Outside of Israel, he has won the National Jewish Book award in the U.S. as well as the Koret Jewish Book Award.
Yehoshua is also one of the most renowned of Israel leftists. A longtime member of the far-left Meretz Party, Yehoshua has long decried what he calls the Israeli “occupation”–even to the point of attempting to start his own political party back in 2009. While that attempt was unsuccessful, Yehoshua has remained a stalwart of the left to whom many of his ideological ilk look to for guidance.

It is in the above context that a most remarkable conversation with Yehoshua was published yesterday in the Maariv newspaper. Penned by Shalom Yerushalmi, the article details a conversation that Yehoshua had with Israel President Reuven Rivlin on December 7th–on the occasions of Yehoshua’s 80th birthday.
Here is the transcript of what Yehoshua told Rivlin:
“Since 1967, I have believed in the division of Israel into two states and the division of Jerusalem into two capitals. It took a long time for Palestinians and Israelis to agree to both countries. However, in 1988, Yasser Arafat saw large waves of immigration from Russia, and he recognized Israel because he feared that soon there would be nothing left for the the Palestinians.
But my faith has faded in the two-state solution. This solution is impossible. I fought against believing this impossibility for the last fifty years, but you have to look at reality. We [on the left] delude ourselves. You cannot eradicate 450 thousand settlers living in Area C. Can Jerusalem be divided? Today, can anyone establish an international border within the city?
Binational reality has become de facto.
The two-state solution is a messianic and delusional vision, and therefore it is the duty of the intellectual and leftist to think about another solution. Israel within the Green Line is already a binational state. 20 percent of the residents here are Arabs. With all the wars, terrorism and the intifadas, we have created a reality of coexistence. the Palestinians want one state; they have not said so explicitly . . . but they want all of “Palestine”, not just 22 percent of it. The Palestinians will not go anywhere . . .
You have to think a difficult and complicated thought. You have to start it from Jerusalem. East Jerusalem Palestinians would become citizens of the country. In the second stage, Israel should give citizenship to 100 thousand Palestinians living in Area C, with social security, minimum wage and equality before the law. It is tough for a person like me who had a different vision to walk with another vision, but reality requires an answer . . .”
What is Yehoshua proposing?
Though for different reasons, he is proposing exactly the same idea as Naftali Bennett and your humble servant: the annexation of Area C. For Yehoshua, the reason for annexation is to end “occupation.” For Bennett and me, the reason for annexation is that Area C is Israel.
To find Yehoshua saying this shows just how dead the “two-state solution” is. There will never be a rolling back to the June 4, 1967 lines no matter how many United Nations resolutions are passed.
The Palestinians already have a state in Gaza as well as Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria. If the Palestinians living in Area C or in east Jerusalem do not want Israeli citizenship, they can always move to Gaza or Areas A and B–or they can remain where they are without citizenship.
In sum, Yehoshua is exactly correct: the two state solution is messianic and delusional. We are long past time to bury it in the ash heap of history.
