Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours
A Palestinian terrorist from Jabel Mukaber murdered 4 Israeli soldier-cadets this afternoon in a truck ramming attack in southern Jerusalem (see Today’s Blog).
Prior to that:
Palestinians attacked security forces with Molotovs, “rocks”, and other projectiles at Al Jib, Harat, Auja, Ni’lin, Ein al Lohse, Bani Na’im, near Ramallah, A-Ram, Adorayim, Mt. Hevron, Kiryat Arba, Havat Maon, Hevron, and Migdalot among other places.
The attacks in Hevron came during a funeral procession which occurred when Israeli authorities idiotically returned the bodies of dead terrorists to their terrorist families.

The Truck Attack in Jerusalem Today
Context: In a similar attack to those ISIS attacks that have taken place in France and Germany (but also similar to numerous Palestinian bulldozer terror attacks), a Palestinian terrorist plowed an industrial dump truck into a group of IDF soldier cadets at the Haas Promenade in Armon Hanatziv in southern Jerusalem just after noon today. As you can see from the Breaking News ticker at the top of this page, 4 soldiers were killed and another 17 were wounded. The terrorist was shot and killed.

Terrorists listen. They listen when their leaders incite them. They carry out terror attacks when they are encouraged to do so.
Why did the terrorist carry out the attack on the soldiers in southern Jerusalem?
Was it because of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334? Was it because of John Kerry’s speeches attacking Israel as an “illegal occupier”? Was it because of Mahmoud Abbas’s hourly rants against Israel? Was it because he was inspired by Islamic State?
We will never know, but it was most likely a combination of all of the above. You may recall this line from yesterday’s blog about the possible move of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem:
It is not just that Kerry has become the leading spokesman of the PLO, what he is doing is recklessly creating a self-fulfilling prophecy which will allow the Palestinians and Arabs to attack Israel (and possibly the United States) with impunity.
Oh sure. Kerry and the U.N. and the European Union, and who knows who else will all quickly condemn what happened today, but the fact is that they are the ones who at least partly set it in motion.
Setting all of this aside for the moment, there is another part of the story that is not being reported in the mainstream media.

According to an interview published in hakolhayudi this afternoon, the first person on the scene–and the first person to open fire on the terrorist–was Ethan Rund a security guard for a group of hikers who were on the promenade.
Here’s what Rund said:
“In that instant I saw a truck speeding quickly . . . over the grass. I jumped up and tried to figure out what’s going on. When I saw the truck [run over the soldiers] and then come in reverse, I realized it was not an accident and was a terrorist attack. I noticed that my gun was still on me . . . and began to shoot.
I first shot all my clip [of ammunition] and then soldiers fired a few more rounds. Another bystander took out a gun to shoot the terrorist. It would have been much easier to shoot the terrorist if we had not known that someday [the authorities] might file charges against us for shooting the terrorist.
Although it took me no longer than a split second, it took the soldiers who fired at least half a minute despite the fact that all of them had M-16s in their hands . . .the fact is that dozens of armed soldiers hesitated; I do not want to say it explicitly, but I have no doubt that the case of Elor Azariya was a factor. “
So there you have one man’s opinion.
But remember this passage written by your humble servant after the verdict in the Azariya trial was announced four days ago?
“[The court ruled] even if Azariya had believed that the terrorist was concealing a bomb, he would still be guilty. In making this declaration, the court then proceeded to change the IDF’s rules of engagement: “Henceforth, justifying opening fire with intent to kill based only upon suspicions of threats will be forbidden.”
Try to put yourself in the shoes of an IDF soldier. According to the court’s ruling, if you are in the middle of a battle, and you suspect that a terrorist who is running toward you is going to pull out a weapon, or detonate a suicide vest, you are forbidden from trying to kill the terrorist.”
Four Israeli soldiers are dead this evening. Three more may die. Could this have been prevented?
I leave it to you dear reader to make the call.
Addendum:
Two last pieces of information.
First, the IDF Chief Spokesman has just issued a statement saying that there was no connection between what happened and the Elor Azariya trial. He said he did not know if the two soldiers who eventually fired at the terrorist “fired late”, and he does not know why so many soldiers ran away. But he is certain that it was not related to the Elor Azariya verdict.
Sure.
Second, your humble servant has just finished listening to a report about the terror attack on the uber-leftist Israeli Channel 10. Guess whom they are suggesting may be responsible for the attack?
If you said “Donald Trump”, congratulate yourself. It is a suggestion likely to be echoed by John Kerry, the U.N., and the European Union today.
