Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In what continues like a broken record, Palestinian terrorist struck again throughout Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem.

Yesterday saw more than 25 terror attacks including:

*“Rock” and Molotov assaults of Israeli police, IDF soldiers, and Border Guards at Baisooiya, Gush Etzion, Izbat Tabib, A-Tur, Jalazun, Husan, A-Ram, and Tekoa.

*“Rock” and Molotov attacks on motorists and pedestrians took place at Anata, Hevron, just outside of Qalqilya, Bani Naim, Umm Salmona, Kiryat Arba, Ras al-Amud, and Migdalot.

Please note that the information above is gleaned from Israeli civilians on the ground as reported at rotter.net and other civilian reportage of attacks reported at kolhayehudi.co.il.

The Palestinians continue to decry a movement of the American Embassy

Every hour another PLO leader comes forward to tell us why the Embassy should not be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Today it was Mahmoud Abbas again with this statement:

“We are hoping Trump will not move the Embassy on the basis of Israel believing that Jerusalem is a united city; such basis is illegal. The move would derail the peace process; we hope to start negotiations on the basis of international legitimacy and UN Resolution 2334.”

Let’s restate the Palestinian position: Jerusalem is not a united city. The concept of a united Jerusalem is illegal. The peace process would stop. We want to negotiate on the basis of international legitimacy and Security Council Resolution 2334.

Hmm. Let’s answer these points in reverse:

Security Council Resolution 2334 will never be recognized by Israel because it supports the ethnic cleansing of all Jews from the Old City of Jerusalem, eastern Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria.

International legitimacy cannot be conferred on an illegitimate entity with illegitimate leadership. When is the last time the Palestinians conferred legitimacy on the PLO or Hamas?  All elections have been stalled for almost a decade.

There is no peace process.

Jerusalem is the unified eternal capital of Israel. The world can say what it wants but the facts on the ground are obvious.

Here’s our message to incoming President Trump: Move the Embassy to Jerusalem!

Good news on the Egyptian border

The director of Border Defense announced yesterday that the fence along the Sinai border is finally finished with 17 kilometers of the fence raised to a height of eight meters. The entire fence has now been fitted with monitoring and detection devices.

The result of the fence has been dramatic–with the number of infiltrators dropping from 213 in 2015 to only 11 last year.

Eilat bounces back

More good news.

Of course, one of the main destinations of infiltrators from the Sinai has been Eilat–one of your humble servant’s favorite places on the planet. Unfortunately, tourism to Eilat from Europe has dropped precipitously in recent years.

In the last two years, the Tourism has launched a massive program to bring tourists back to Eilat. One of the main facets of the campaign has been the “Open Skies” program that offers low-cost flights from central and northern Europe.

Yesterday, the Tourism Ministry revealed that for the first eleven months of last year, Eilat hotels had the highest occupancy rate in the country–73%. This rate exceeds that in Tel Aviv (71%) and Jerusalem (53%).

For the most part, the announcement yesterday was a good thing.

Israel has agreed to turn over autonomy to carry out water projects to the Palestinian Authority (aka the PLO) in Areas A and B. This agreement follows previous agreements in such areas as telephone service, electricity, and mail service.

Interestingly, Al-Sheikh (see picture) had this to say: “I believe this is a step in the direction of comprehensive peace agreement with the Israeli government and a real and serious peace that gives Palestinians and Israelis a real chance…I know there is a huge crisis of trust between the two sides, but what strengthens trust [between us] is what it is agreed upon between us.”*

Though your humble servant is sure that Al-Sheikh has something else in mind, namely a “two state solution”, perhaps the water, electricity, telephone, and postal service agreements could lead to something different.

Perhaps they are leading to Israeli recognition of an autonomous Palestinian “state” in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria. Why not just declare these areas an autonomous state completely divorced from Israel? As your humble servant always points out, the Palestinians already have a de facto state in Areas A and B.

And let’s not forget that “autonomy” played an important role in Israel’s history with the Yehud Medinata, which was the autonomous state of Judea (“Yehud”) created following the Persian conquest of Babylonia in 539 BCE. If you recall your history, Cyrus the Great permitted Jews to return to Judea from their captivity in Babylonia. During the next two centuries until the arrival of Alexander the Great, Jews set up and ran their own government including even the minting of their own coinage.

Of course, the problem with the above “autonomy” scenario is that because of such things as Security Council resolution 2334, the emboldened Palestinians would never accept such an “autonomous” situation.

Still, it is an interesting thought.

One final note. Unfortunately, there was one element of yesterday’s agreement which was, in my opinion, another self-inflicted wound. It turns out that Israel also agreed that the PLO could administer water programs in Palestinian settlements in Area C. Why would Israel ever agree to cede such sovereignty? Ask the leftist Yoav Mordechai and his cronies at COGAT.
