The News on the Israel Street Today
What a wild day of celebrations it has been with dancing in the street, barbecuing in the parks, swimming at the beach, and generally getting together with family and friends to celebrate the miracle that is Israel.
My favorite story of the day was the incident last night in which a number of Neturei Karta (the ultra-orthodox sect that regularly goes to Tehran to deny the Holocaust happened and to delegitimize Israel) were going through Jerusalem taking down Israeli flags and ripping them apart.
They spotted what they thought was a single Israeli man carrying a flag, jumped him, and started to destroy his flag. It turned out that they had picked the wrong man. He was walking in front of a large contingent of Israelis who rushed to his rescue and then proceeded to chase down the Neturei Karta.
Even as the Neturei Karta fled in different directions, the Israelis chased them down, waved Israeli flags in their faces, and sang Hatikvah.
