The News on the Israel Street
Palestinian terrorism yesterday . . .
Palestinian terrorists smashed and burned cars with “rocks” and Molotovs in an attempt to kill Israelis at the Ma’ale Levona South Junction, near Tekoa, between Ariel and the Giti Avisar intersection, between El Khader and the Efrat North exit, just outside of the village of Azzun, and near Hevron–to name six out of twenty seven terror attacks.
Did you read about any of the above terror attacks yesterday? Or see anything about them on television? Of course not, the media rarely if ever reports on such terrorism. After all who cares if someone is trying to kill Israeli Jews?
A few pieces of good news from Judea and Samaria . . .
*Remember the fledgling Jewish community that was destroyed by the Civil Administration last week at Kumi Uri beside Yitzhar?
Last night, the community members returned in force and held a dedication for two new buildings they erected yesterday afternoon.
*A group of European Christian “leftists” who were brought into the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hevron yesterday by a leftist tour provider quickly found themselves unwelcome as bags of water were dumped on their heads from above by local residents.
Baruch Marzel, a resident of Tel Rumeida, noted that the leftists come to Hevron to delegitimize Israel and that “they should understand that we are not in Europe and we will not give the other cheek.”
Speaking of Christians . . .
In a first of its kind case yesterday, the Rabbinical Court of Tel Aviv issued a decision in the case of two “messianic Jews” (aka “Jews for Jesus”) who wanted to get married according to Jewish Law.
The Court heard evidence from the couple that they were born Jewish, keep kosher, believe that Jesus is God, believe in the New Testament, and were baptized in the name of “the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
The couple also declared that their mission is to spread the message of Christianity to the Jewish population of Israel. They stated that they belonged to the Tiferet Yehoshua community, a messianic Jewish group.
The decision of the Court was blunt and to the point:
“The Court rules that the request of those who wish to arrange a chupah and kiddushin according to the law of Moses and Israel is rejected. They have converted to the Christian faith.”
The clock is ticking in Syria . . .
Recent discussions between Putin and Netanyahu appear to have gotten nowhere.
Yesterday, Russian FM Lavrov declared that Russia would not permit Israel to attack Iranian positions in Syria.
And Israelis officials once again declared that Israel will not allow Iran to set up bases in Syria. In doing so, one official warned Assad that his palace in Damascus would be destroyed if he permits the Iranians to set up such bases.
The point is that Iran already has bases all over Syria and is even busy setting up a port for its naval vessels. Clearly, we are reaching a moment where Israel will need to go it alone or risk being almost completely encircled by Iran.
What is Israel afraid of? . . .
Yesterday, the Planning Council decided to postpone construction decisions until the end of September. What were supposed to have been approved were: 700 residential units in Ariel, 260 in Tzofim, 97 in Rechalim, 86 Psagot and Migron, and 902 in Negohot in the South Hebron Hills.
Why were they not approved yet? Because Israel doesn’t want to provide Mahmoud Abbas ammunition before he goes to the United Nations at the beginning of September.
Say what?
Does anyone seriously think that anything that Israel does or doesn’t do will somehow cause Mahmoud Abbas to temper his tirade at the U.N.? Does anyone seriously think that Israel will engender support by postponing the construction decision?
If anyone answered the above two questions affirmatively, your humble servant will recommend a good psychiatrist for you.

No T-Shirts, No Lycra Stretch Pants, No Stroking Your Beard: Coming To A School Near You?
Your humble servant read with some amusement this morning that the General Hassidic School of Elad has issued a new modesty code for the coming year that begins tomorrow.
Among other things, there can be no eye make-up worn, no T-shirts, no lycra stretch pants, and no touching of the beard.
Wait . . .
No touching of the beard?
Have you figured this out yet?
The modesty code is for the parents bringing the kids to school. They are the ones who cannot put on make-up, wear this and that, and stroke their beards.
And just so you know how serious the school is, each set of parents must sign a document, guaranteed by a third person, that they agree to follow the guidelines.
Already, one of the fathers was complaining yesterday: “I never stroke my beard. Why did I have to sign this?”
Your humble servant simply wonders what is objectionable about stroking one’s beard anyway?
Anyway . . . coming soon to a school near you?
