Picture of the Day:
Quotes of the Day:
“There will be a day when Trump will die and his body will be eaten by insects. It is unreasonable to continue the nuclear deal if we do not receive promises and guarantees from the three European countries that signed the agreement.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reacting yesterday to President Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Iranian Nuclear Weapons Appeasement Agreement
This quotation says it all: Iran’s hatred of Trump, and the European embrace of Iran.
What can we expect in the coming days? An outpouring of support of the Iranian deal from the likes of Britain, France, and Germany—and promises and guarantees of millions of more dollars for the terrorists in Tehran.
For example, we already have these statements from the appeasers today:
Angela Merkel: “Europe will do all in its power to continue the nuclear agreement with Iran.”
British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson: “Britain has no intention of withdrawing from the agreement. We will do all in our power to safeguard our economic interests in Iran.”
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza border:
Seven fires were set yesterday by Molotov kites. Attempts to breach the Gaza border fence continued unabated–the most serious attempt was at the Karni Crossing east of Gaza City.
In Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem:
Curve 160 near Hevron, Kiryat Arba on the Patriarchs’ Path, on the road between Gush Etzion and Hevron, on the road between Adam and Hizma, Halhul, Havat Gilad, Oranit, Havat Yehuda, Tekoa, and Turmus’ayya: these were ten of the some 30 locations where Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis.
A Border Policewoman was wounded at Abu Dis when she was hit in the chest by a “rock”. She was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Karem hospital and is listed in “satisfactory” condition.
Israel strikes a missile launching site and warehouse . . .
Israel apparently averted an Iranian attack last night by hitting an Iranian missile facility in the Al-Kiswa neighborhood south of Damascus.
32 bodies were brought to the Almog hospital, including one whose identity was closely guarded. All of the missiles at the site were destroyed.
A law long past due . . .
The Knesset, following the Taylor Force Act in the United States, passed the first reading of a law that will deduct tax funds Israel collects for the PLO in the amount of money the PLO pays to the families of Palestinian terrorists.
It is frankly embarrassing that it took Congressional action in the United States to make the Knesset act.
Hezbollah’s electoral victory in Lebanon . . .
Lebanon creeps ever closer to becoming a Hezbollah state. In the elections two days ago, Hezbollah scored dramatic gains in the Lebanese Parliament–winning more than half of its seats.
What does this mean to Israel?
It means that the Lebanese Army is, de facto, under the control of Hezbollah.
What does this mean to Lebanon?
It means that in any future war between Hezbollah and Israel, all of Lebanon is a target.
Great news on the tourist front . . .
Despite BDS efforts and war clouds circling all around, tourists continue flocking to Israel in ever greater numbers.
April 2018 saw a 17% increase in tourists over April 2017, and a 61% increase over April 2016. It is estimated that the tourists spent 2.1 billion shekels (about $600 million dollars) last month.
TODAY’S BLOG:
What Was President Obama’s Real Goal All Along?
In what was an unprecedented breach of “past presidential protocol”, former U.S. President Barack Obama unleashed a scathing attack yesterday within hours of President Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Iranian Nuclear Weapons Appeasement Agreement (aka the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action–JPOCA) that he and John Kerry engineered.
Here are a few of the astonishing statements from Obama’s attack:
“. . . the JCPOA is a model for what diplomacy can accomplish . . .”
A model of diplomacy? This was total appeasement to the Iranians–who received everything they asked for including a planeload of cash. There was no diplomacy; there was merely the giving of concession after concession to the Iranians.
” . . . its inspections and verification regime is precisely what the United States should be working to put in place with North Korea . . . the JCPOA does not rely on trust – it is rooted in the most far-reaching inspections and verification regime ever negotiated in an arms control deal. Iran’s nuclear facilities are strictly monitored. International monitors also have access to Iran’s entire nuclear supply chain, so that we can catch them if they cheat. Without the JCPOA, this monitoring and inspections regime would go away.”
Just flabbergasting. Iranian “military sites” were specifically excluded from inspection; insofar as other sites are concerned, Iran had to be given 30 days notice of an inspection–or they could merely inspect the sites themselves. The JCPOA completely relied on trust–the western world trusting the Iranian regime to tell the truth. PM Netanyahu’s revelations last week of the material obtained from Iran by Mossad amply demonstrates that Iran can never be trusted.
One other word: the gall of Obama weighing in on North Korea is astonishing. Obama did nothing for 8 years to rein in Kim Jong Eun–and now he wants to tell President Trump what to do?
“. . . the JCPOA does not expire. The prohibition on Iran ever obtaining a nuclear weapon is permanent . . .”
Does Obama think that none of us can read? There are numerous sunset clauses that could have Iran producing a nuclear weapon within 7 years—if they have not already done so.
In the last 24 hours, Iran has already crowed what we already knew: its nuclear enrichment program can be up and running in 48 hours–which again, is precisely what PM Netanyahu pointed out the other day.
“. . . the JCPOA was never intended to solve all of our problems with Iran. We were clear-eyed that Iran engages in destabilizing behavior – including support for terrorism, and threats toward Israel and its neighbors . . .”
We were clear eyed? If there is any indisputable truth, it is that the JCPOA has unleashed Iran by funding it to spread its tentacles throughout Iraq, Yemen, and Syria. Because of the JCPOA, Iran has nearly completed a road from Tehran to the Mediterranean, planting its Shi’ite flag at every stop along the way.
The simple fact is that the JCPOA has destabilized the Middle East on a grand scale and enabled Iran to come within a hair’s breadth of achieving regional hegemony.
It is tempting to think that this was President Obama’s main goal all along.
