Our Condolences
Our condolences go out today to the President Reuvlin Rivlin and his family on the death of President Rivlin’s beloved wife Nechama.
Widely revered among Israelis as a person who lived simply and practiced extraordinary kindness, Nechama was born in 1945 in Moshav Herut in the Sharon region. After graduating from Hebrew University with a B.S. in Botany and Zoology in 1967, she became a zoological researcher at the university, eventually working on genetics in the Department of Ecology.
In 1971, she married her husband and they had three children.
In the last decade she suffered from pulmonary fibrosis, and just two months ago had a lung transplant. She died from complications related to that transplant.
Nechama Rivlin: May her memory be blessed.
The News On The Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria . . .
*Palestinian terrorists using Molotovs attacked a bus near the Netof Quarries.
*Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked the security fence of Karmei Tzur.
*Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israelis at numerous locations including just outside of Al-Aruv, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron road, and near Tekoa.
*Palestinian terrorists throwing Molotovs attempted to burn down a cherry orchard in Kfar Etzion.
So what were the Israeli border police and officers of the Civil Administration doing while the Palestinians were committing all of this terror?
Hundreds of them were marching to Yitzhar to destroy 1 house in the Jewish community there.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Why should they pay? . . .
It was announced this morning that the PLO has stopped all payments to the Israeli Electric Corporation.
With a debt increasing at the rate of 300 million shekels per month, the total amount owed by the Palestinians for electricity supplied to Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria is more than 2,000,000,000 shekels (about $555 million dollars).
But why should they pay?
As we all know, the Palestinians are infants who revel in their dependency on others. If they don’t pay, they know that Israel will not turn off the electricity, and that the bill will be picked up by we Israeli taxpayers in the form of higher charges on our bills.
It is totally disgusting.
Some fantastic economic news! . . .
It is amazing how the Israeli economy continues booming despite all efforts of the international BDS movement to stop people and countries from buying Israeli products or selling products to us.
It turns out in 2018, Israeli exports reached a new all-time high of $110.6 billion dollars. This was in increase of 7% over 2017. Exported services amounted to almost $50 billion dollars and were centered in the high-tech industries. Exported goods amounted to around $60 billion dollars and increases came in the fields of machinery, automation, and medical equipment.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Can You Figure Out Israel’s Gaza Policy?
Allow your humble servant to throw five facts your way today:
First, there have been at least six fires reported along the Gaza border in recent hours: 4 in the Eshkol region, 1 in the Be’eri Forest, and another beside Sha’ar Hanegev.
Second, according to Israeli business sources, 80 truckloads of cement–ideal for building tunnels–were sent into Gaza by Israel in the last few days.
Third, Israeli security sources told the Wall Street Journal that Hamas and Islamic Jihad have already replaced all of the 750+ mortars and missiles they fired at southern Israel a month ago. According to the same source, the Palestinians in Gaza now have more than 10,000 missiles; many are locally produced, but an increasing number are being smuggled into Gaza by “fishermen”.
Fourth, the Israel’s Southern District Prosecutor filed indictments against four Gaza fishermen yesterday for trying to smuggle 24 barrels of fiberglass used to manufacture missiles into Gaza. They were captured at sea by the Israeli Navy.
Fifth, the Israeli government almost doubled the distance that Gaza fishermen can go off coast from 8 to 15 miles today.
So can you, dear reader, possibly figure out what our government’s policy toward Gaza is?
No matter what “fire” terrorism the Palestinians perpetrate against Israelis, tunnel-making materials continue pouring into Gaza. No matter that we know that missiles and missile-making materials continue to be smuggled into Gaza by sea, we extend the range of Gazan fishermen.
Perhaps you can understand a little more now why people who live in southern Israel constantly decry the fact that the government has no policy in Gaza–except to facilitate those trying to kill us.
