The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Along the Gaza border:
Aside from the missile attack on Sderot last night (see Today’s Blog below), Palestinian terrorists in Gaza launched more explosive balloons into southern Israel starting fires in the Eshkol Region and in the Simhoni Forest close to Nahal Oz.
The only reaction is that for the second day in a row (a new record!), Israel kept in force the total ban on fishing in Gaza which evoked this announcement from two anti-Israel NGOs, “Adalah” and the “Al Mezan Center for Human Rights in Gaza”: “The fishermen have nothing to do with the balloons, their punishment is cruel and must be stopped.”
Hmm. Cruel? How about the cruelty of Gazan fishermen smuggling in materials to be used in explosive balloon attacks and missile attacks against Israeli men, women, and children?
In Judea and Samaria:
The Azzun Junction, Rechalim, Tekoa, Karmei Tzur, A-Ram, Al-Aruv, Genia, Deir Qadis: these are but a few of the places where Israelis reported being attacked by Palestinian terrorists.
Speaking of Judea and Samaria:
The European Court of Justice overruled a French court yesterday on the subject of labeling wines produced in Judea and Samaria. The French court had ruled that such wines need not be labeled as coming from Area C; however the European court ordered all wine produced in Judea and Samaria be labled as such:
Edging closer to war? . . .
Or has a war already begun out in the Persian Gulf?
The Iranians are making good on their threat to disrupt oil shipments out of the Persian (aka Arabian) Gulf. Triangular-shaped Iranian limpet mines started the above fire just as they did four others last month in the Gulf of Oman.
The Norwegian Front Altair vessel was also attacked in the same general location yesterday; its crew is apparently being held hostage in Iran.
Another first for Ashdod . . .
As you may or may not be aware, the port of Ashdod overtook the Port of Haifa many years ago as the largest port in Israel.
Yesterday, the largest crane in Israel (manufactured in China) arrived at the port. The specs on the crane as publicized: 123.5 meters high with the arm in raised position and is designed for unloading or loading ships up to 18,000 TEUs. TEUs are twenty-foot equivalent units.

No Courage and No Resolve: Last Night’s Attack on Sderot
“The security chaos in the south is unbearable. Hamas is recognizing and exploiting Netanyahu’s weaknesses. The deterrence has eroded. The rockets are flying. The fields are burning, and only a miracle has prevented a disaster in Sderot tonight.”
A spokesman for the city of Sderot last night
Just an hour after your humble servant landed at Ben Gurion last night, and while returning to his home in Ashdod, came news over the car radio that Sderot had been hit in a missile attack.
Specifically, the Chabad Yeshiva was struck. Miraculously, the missile hit a corner of the third floor and missed any of the dozens of students inside.
In retaliation, the IDF spokesman said that our aircraft attacked terrorist “infrastructures.” This is IDF code for doing nothing except bombing empty buildings, empty compounds, and empty dunes.
Then the IDF spokesman issued this statement: “The IDF will continue to act against attempts to harm the citizens of Israel and considers the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for all events transpiring in the Gaza Strip and emanating from it.” In other words, the IDF will continue to do nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Tens of thousands of southern Israelis sent running to their bomb shelters, a Palestinian missile scoring a direct hit on a building in Sderot, and our government does nothing.
The official in Sderot said that Hamas “is recognizing and exploiting Netanyahu’s weaknesses. The deterrence has eroded.”
This is not exactly true. Hamas has always known Netanyahu’s weakness and has exploited it ever since Netanyahu took office back in 2009. In a nutshell, Netanyahu is addicted to Israel acting as if there is a status quo, but not caring that those arrayed against us constantly erode that status quo.
Why doesn’t Israel exercise our sovereignty over the Temple Mount amidst a Jordanian-Palestinian takeover? Why is Israel currently “negotiating” our rights away with the PLO at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron? Why do Palestinian terrorists continue to bombard our community members out in Judea and Samaria with Molotovs and “rocks”? Why have explosive balloons along the Gaza border become a way of life? Why do we continue to permit terrorists in Gaza to shoot missiles at us?
Because our government lacks the courage and resolve to do anything about any of these situations.
