The Most Absurd Quote of the Day

“No Palestinian faction fired toward Israel. We’re conducting an investigation to find out who fired.”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh speaking yesterday to Nickolay Mladenov, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, about the Palestinian missile attacks on Nirim and Sderot in the last few days.

If Haniyeh’s comments were not absurd enough, Mladenov’s reply was even more so:

“A Qatari envoy will deliver $30 million in cash to you (Hamas) next week.”

Such is the Orwellian world of Gaza. Palestinian terrorists simply lie unabashedly about the terrorism they carry out, and then extortion money is paid them to supposedly stop them from carrying out more terrorism.

In short, there is total appeasement of terror.

Tel Aviv Parties While Southern Israel Burns

The schism could not have been more evident than yesterday.

On the one hand, you had more than 250,000 revelers participating in the Gay Pride parade along the Tel Aviv promenade:

They were not all Israelis–but most were. Inasmuch as Tel Aviv has become a main center of the gay universe, the city was filled with gays and LGBT supporters from around the world. In various stages of undress, they cavorted and frolicked their way through the city–much to the delight of Israeli television networks that set up broadcasting positions along the route.

If you want to get a sense of the frivolity, you can clear here.

Under the mantra of peace, love, freedom, tolerance, and full equality for all, the participants sang, danced, and embraced. Some also expressed their abhorrence of orthodox Jews who tend to view them with revulsion.

But mainly, the event was less about ideology and more about partying.

We could go on and on, but you get the picture. All told, there were at least 15 fires started by explosive balloons sent by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza yesterday: 4 in Be’eri, 3 in Eshkol, and others in such places as Alumim, Simhoni, Sha’ar Hanegev, and as you can see above, Nahal Oz.

More than this, our soldiers were attacked all day along the Gaza border fence. While the revelers partied in Tel Aviv, our troops were hit with dozens of grenades, Molotovs, IEDs and all sorts of explosive devices. In one incident, ten terrorists crossed the barbed wire fence east of Al-Bureij, destroyed some IDF equipment, then returned to Gaza.

Last night, when Israeli television was able to tear itself away from the events in Tel Aviv, we learned that more Iron Dome batteries have been placed at key positions around the South. Indeed, as we drove home from Nes Ziona to Ashdod last night down Highway 4, we could see that the Iron Dome battery for Ashdod was back in place.

The scene in Israel yesterday reminded your humble servant of accounts he has read about the War for Independence in 1948. Apparently, at some of the direst moments at which Israel’s very survival hung in the balance, some Tel Avivers were obliviously sitting in their cafes sipping espresso.

Not much has changed over the last seven decades.
