The News on the Israeli Street
The “daily” Corona (Covid-19) update . . .
The following covers the last 48 hours (from 8 am Friday until 8 am Sunday):
343,826 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.
There were 2,784 newly confirmed cases in the last 2 days.
329 are in critical condition—an increase of 38
85 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 6
2,909 have died–an increase of 18
There are currently 13,168 active Corona cases in Israel.
What stands out from the numbers above?
*We are now back to averaging around 1400 new cases per day.
*After several weeks of decreases, the number of critically ill is moving upward again.
*The number of active cases is increasing by about 1000 per day.

The ups and downs of normalization . . .
First we had the Sudan which apparently normalized relations with Israel, but now is threatening to de-normalize.
Then we had Saudi Arabia which was permitting overflights between Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi, and then temporarily suspended that permission for Israeli passenger jets only to re-permit such flights half a day later.
And yesterday, we had Bahrain which had said that it would import goods from Judea and Samaria and mark them “produced in Israel”, only to backtrack this morning and declare “We will not import goods from Israeli settlements.”
Oh . . . and of course we forgot about how the UAE threatened that it would abrogate the normalization agreement if Israel did not publicly declare its support for the Emirates receiving 50 F35s.
In short, “normalization” is not going as smoothly as everyone would like to make it out to be.
Changes afoot in Tehran? . . .
According to Iranian news reports, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has begun the process of turning over power to his son Mujatba.
Those news items suggest that Khamenei’s condition (prostate cancer apparently) has worsened to the point that he is no longer to carry on his daily activities.
Photos of Mujatba taken in the past with a pantheon of Iranian “heroes” such as Qasem Soleimani have begun appearing in the Iranian press.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Pallywood Tale of the “Dead Child” Yesterday
“Shocked by the killing of 15-year-old Palestinian boy Ali Ali Aliyah near Ramallah today. Israel must quickly and independently investigate this horrific and unacceptable incident. Children enjoy special protection under international law and they should be protected from violence. “
A tweet by UN envoy to the Middle East Nikolai Mladanov regarding the apparent death of a Palestinian yesterday.
What else should we expect from the abominable UN envoy to the Middle East but blatantly absurd statements about what happened during a terrorist attack on our troops?
First, it is hilarious how the age of the Palestinian who apparently died continues dropping by the hour. First he was 16, in the above tweet 15, in the Jerusalem Post this morning 14, and in Palestinian online media this later morning 13. By the time the day is over, we will be talking about a 5-year-old.
Second, is there an age limit on terrorists? How old does someone have to be to shoot a gun, throw a Molotov, plant an IED, or throw “rocks”? Should someone 16 years old violently attacking our soldiers “be protected from violence” and “enjoy special protection under international law.” The proposition is absurd on its face.
Third, speaking of that violence, what exactly happened at Al-Mughayyir, the Palestinian settlement near Ramallah? As all regular readers of OneIsrael know, Al-Mughayyir is the site of some of the worst terrorism in Judea and Samaria with ongoing Molotov and “rock” attacks directed against Israelis. Yesterday was no different with terrorists attempting to trap Israelis by rolling burning tires onto the Alon Road and then assaulting them with “rocks”. Also, as usual, the “rocks” were not small stones but concrete slabs.
Fourth, what exactly happened to the supposed “victim” who was engaging in this terror? According to Palestinian accounts, the “child” was shot in the stomach by an IDF soldier, then taken to the Palestine Medical Center in Ramallah where he died of his wounds.
However, this photograph taken by Palestinians belies the tale:
No shot in the stomach, no bleeding, and apparently very much alive–in accordance with the IDF statement afterwards that “no live ammunition” was fired.
All of which was inadvertently corroborated by a local Palestinian resident who said this: “In the beginning, we thought it was a light injury, but the ambulance team that examined him saw that it was serious and decided to take him to the hospital.”
Of course they decided to take him to the hospital. Just like they always do in these suspicious Pallywood events. Someone lightly injured or not injured at all is whisked away in a Palestinian ambulance to a Palestinian hospital and in the process ends up dying (or actually turns up alive and well months afterward).
