316 of our newest citizens arrived from Ethiopia–to be followed by 100 more today. By the end of January, 2000 will have arrived.

Most of those who came yesterday are children or grandchildren of Ethiopian-Israelis who arrived here decades ago. There are an estimated 5000 more Falash Mura in Ethiopia whose Jewish status continues to be debated because they are the descendants of Jews who converted to Christianity and as such are not technically able to make aliya.

The News on the Israeli Street

The “daily” Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

The following covers the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday until 8 am today):

341,042 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There were 2,915 newly confirmed cases yesterday.

291 are in critical condition—an increase of 7

91 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 10

2,891 have diedan increase of 8

There are currently 11,507 active Corona cases in Israel.

The above numbers are extremely worrisome because of the huge spike in newly confirmed cases yesterday as well as the number of active cases in the country. Almost certainly, we are headed toward a Chanukah lockdown of some sort.

Apparently about 2-4 million doses of the Pfizer Corona vaccine are set to arrive here in Israel by January 1.

TODAY’S BLOG:

What Do Australia, Canada, the Marshall Islands,

Micronesia, and the U.S. Have In Common?

These are the only 5 countries in the world that supported Israel on all five anti-Israel resolutions proposed by the PLO in the United Nations yesterday.

Just think about that for a moment. Only 5 countries with the moral principles to vote against all five of the annual resolutions which are passed every year.

Were there any surprises on any of the votes? There was an occasional vote with Israel from Hungary, Switzerland, and Brazil, but by and large the same anti-Semitism that stinks up the United Nations was on full display yesterday.

Your humble servant suggests that you send an email to each of the five delegations expressing your appreciation for their principled stand:
