Quotes of the Day
1.
“Returning to negotiations with the Palestinians is a key task of the next government.”
So-called “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz
The above comment was made while Gantz was on a tour of Judea and Samaria. Instead of taking the opportunity to shore up the security situation there (see “Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours” below), Gantz used his small soapbox to champion discussions with the terrorists.
We say small soapbox because current polls suggest that Gantz’s Blue and White Party might not garner enough votes to be in the next Knesset. What Gantz is actually doing is positioning himself as a friend of the Biden Administration and as a potential speaker on the “Trash Israel” speaker circuit.
2.
“The IDF is helpless in the face of Bedouin gangs in the South. In preparation for the move of the 8200 Intelligence Division there, a special budget should be prepared to provide security for the Division’s computers.”
Tzachi Dabush military correspondent for Gali Tzahal
As we have recently noted, the situation at IDF bases in the Negev is out of control with ammunition and weapons being stolen almost everyday.
Yesterday, we reported on the infiltration at the Negev base home to Israel’s F35 squadron. Despite an all out search for the infiltrator(s) by special units of the IDF, he (or they) remain unfound as of this hour. A special guard has been put around the aircraft.
Where is Defense Minister Gantz? Where is the IDF Head Kochavi?
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Palestinian terrorists throwing “rocks” and Molotovs wounded a Border Policeman in the vicinity of Tekoa.
Palestinian terrorists wounded the driver of a car at the T-Junction.
Palestinian terrorists attacked a bus near Hizma. No physical wounds were reported among the passengers and driver.
Palestinian terrorists struck 3 vehicles with “rocks” and Molotovs near Ofra.
About the “siege” of Gaza . . .
It is interesting how the international media and so-called human rights groups love to say that Israelis have incarcerated the poor Palestinians in Gaza in “the largest open-air prison” in the world.
Aside from ignoring the obvious fact that the maritime blockade and Gaza security fence are there because of Palestinian terror, they also ignore the Rafah Crossing into and out of Gaza which is completely controlled by Egypt.
Your humble servant mentions this because this morning Egypt opened the Rafah Crossing for the first time in three months.
Unlike the Israeli crossings into Gaza which are almost always open for “humanitarian reasons”, the Rafah Crossing is almost always closed because the Egyptians know it would a revolving door for Palestinian terrorists coming and going from Gaza and Egypt.
In any case, no one, not the international media nor leftist organizations, offers one word of criticism about the Egyptians.

TODAY’S BLOG:
It Didn’t Take Long: Biden and the Golan
Back on November 5th of last year, I wrote a blog entitled “Israel And A Biden Presidency” in which I listed 13 items we could expect from a Biden presidency.
Item 6 on that list was:
“The Trump Administration’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty on the Golan Heights will likely be reversed.”
Here we are, just three weeks into the Biden’s term, and we had this articulation of the new Biden Golan Doctrine yesterday from Secretary of State Antony Blinken in response to a question by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer:
Blitzer: “Will the Biden Administration continue to see the Golan Heights as part of Israel?”
Blinken: “Look, leaving aside the legalities of that question, as a practical matter, the Golan is very important to Israel’s security . . . As long as Assad is in power in Syria, as long as Iran is present in Syria, militia groups backed by Iran, the Assad regime itself – all of these pose a significant security threat to Israel, and as a practical matter, the control of the Golan in that situation I think remains of real importance to Israel’s security. Legal questions are something else. And over time, if the situation were to change in Syria, that’s something we’d look at. But we are nowhere near as that.”
What can we make of this ungrammatical answer? As we have bolded above, there is no need to parse. The Biden Administration is not averse to recognizing Syrian sovereignty over the Golan Heights should the situation on the ground in Syria change.
At least that is the Biden starting position.
One wonders how quickly Biden will move the goalposts and begin marching toward a declaration that the Golan Heights are Syrian?
