The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Fires from explosive balloons sent from Gaza were reported at several locations, most notably at Sde Shlef.
Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road around the area of Al-Aruv and in the area between Beit Omer and Karmei Tzur, on the Trans-Judean road near Halhul, between Eviatar and Tapuach, at Singil northeast of Ramallah, and at Luban A-Sharqiya among other places.
Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs at a bus near Hizma.
More about that infiltration attempt yesterday . . .
If you recall from yesterday’s blog, a heavily armed Palestinian terrorist from Gaza infiltrated into southern Israel, Fortunately, despite a breakdown in IDF observation posts, he was spotted by the security official of a moshav.
And he was eventually shot.
But not by the security official.
Why?
Because as we reported some months ago, the Israel Police in their infinite lack of wisdom decided to confiscate the weapons of all community security personnel along the Gaza border.
Why?
A reason was never given, but yesterday’s incident demonstrates how important it is for these security people to be armed.

Three cheers for Lindsey! . . .
Your humble servant would be amiss today if I did not give a shout out to Senator Lindsey Graham who is visiting Israel–and attending the good-bye party for Mossad Head Yossi Cohen.
Graham has been one of Israel’s staunchest friends in the U.S. Congress for decades and deserves all the plaudits that Israel will give him.
Oh and did I mention? It so happens that both Lindsey Graham and your humble servant are from the great state of South Carolina–and I have had the good fortune to meet with him on occasion.

Down To Crunch Time:
Will The New Bennett-Lapid Coalition Government Be Formed?
Technically, Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid has until midnight tomorrow to inform President Rivlin that he has formed a government.
Following Yamina Chairman Naftali Bennett’s dramatic announcement that he will join Lapid, the negotiating teams of all the parties expected to be in the coalition have been holding feverish meetings trying to work out a way for all parties to be assuaged.
At this hour, there are still several major hang-ups.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle is that Yamina Co-Chair Ayelet Shaked has issued an ultimatum that she will not join the government unless she is placed on the Judicial Selection Committee. As you may not remember, judges are a subject that is near and dear to Shaked; as Justice Minister, she reshaped the Israeli judiciary and does not now want to see her work dismantled. So what is the problem? Shaked wants the Selection committee seat that has apparently been given to ultra-leftist Merav Michaeli.
Another large problem concerns the Bedouins, particularly since Mansour Abbas of the Islamist Raam party wants to be in charge of what happens in those communities. He wants to the government to (among other things) stop trying to root out illegal Bedouin encampments that have sprung up all over the Negev and to allow polygamy among the Bedouins (the Bedouins already have one of the highest birthrates in the world).
And then there is Benny Gantz who suddenly has awakened to the fact that Naftali Bennett will be prime minister for 2 years despite the fact that Bennett’s party received substantially fewer votes in the last election than did Gantz’s Blue and White Party.
And, and, and . . .
Will the problems be resolved? Of course they will because if there is one thing that unites all of the parties involved, it is that they want to see Netanyahu ousted.
