Her Excellency, The Baroness Buffoon, Catherine Ashton

Baroness Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is coming to Israel, again. To demand that Israel make concessions to the Palestinians, again. To save her own skin, again.

Ashton, who has always vitriolically condemned Israel for everything from constructing a security barrier to trying to isolate Hamas, has now written a letter to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that demands that Israel pull back to its 1967 border in return for Palestinian security assurances.

And why must Israel do this? Ostensibly because, according to one theory, if Israel doesn’t, Europe will be split into pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian camps in September when the Palestinians are scheduled to make their drive for statehood at the U.N. (are there really pro-Israel European countries?).

But the reality is that Israel must do something to save Ashton’s skin. The Baroness has done virtually nothing in her job and has impressed everyone with her lack of leadership ability and clownish lack of foreign policy experience. Earlier this year she came in last in a performance ranking of European Commissioners–more than two-thirds of the EU’s officials evaluated Ashton’s performance as “disappointing” or “below average”.

One of those EU officials has recently noted that if Ashton wants to keep her job through 2014 “she needs deliverables in the next four to six months, specifically playing a positive and visible role on the EU position on Palestine in September.”

So here we have it again, a miserable failure of a politician attempting to save her skin on the backs of the Israeli people.
