The Time Has Come To Talk Of Many Things

UPDATES 7 pm Israel time, December 31 2013:

**Palestinian murderers have spent the day being hailed as “heroes” throughout Samaria, Judea, and Gaza. Festive celebrations have produced fireworks displays, parades, and speech after speech about defeating the “weakening Zionist occupier.”

It is worthwhile to remember why these murderers have been released.

They were released in order to get the PLO sponsors of the murderers to come to the “negotiating table” to receive more concessions from Israel.

TODAY’S BLOG:

“The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
And waited in a row.

‘The time has come,’ the Walrus said,
‘To talk of many things:
Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–
And whether pigs have wings.’

Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, Lewis Carroll (1872)

As 2013 comes to an end and 2014 is upon us, the time has indeed come to talk of many things.  John Kerry will be arriving in Israel tomorrow bringing with him a “framework for peace.”

Whatever strategy Benjamin Netanyahu may have had beginning this process has come to naught. For all of his attempts to show that Israel is “partner for peace”, Israel finds itself more isolated than ever.

Many of Netanyahu’s moves have defied understanding. In particular, his agreement to release Palestinian terrorist murderers has been a fiasco. Aside from the sheer immorality of releasing such criminals, Netanyahu seems to have thought that he could mitigate objections to such releases by announcing construction of new homes in Jewish neighborhoods and communities in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria.

But Netanyahu never had any intention of allowing any building anywhere. All he has done by making such announcements is to expose this country to ever greater criticism. Now we have talk that he has refused to allow the release of Israeli-Arab prisoners in the next Palestinian murderer release in a couple of months unless Jonathan Pollard is released by the United States.

Except that this too is just talk. Netanyahu is already drawing up plans to replace Israeli-Arab murderers with still more Palestinian prisoners. And the thought that there is an equivalence between barbaric Arab murderers and Jonathan Pollard is morally repugnant.

In short, Benjamin Netanyahu has lost his way. Whatever moral compass he had has disappeared. He has allowed himself to be dragged into a process from which a man with his lack to backbone is unable to pull back from. As Netanyahu is ensnared deeper and deeper into the American web of false promises, Israel finds itself ever more dependent on John Kerry and Barack Obama–neither of which is any friend of Israel.

Will the Palestinians ever agree to a Kerry “framework for peace” that calls for Palestinian recognition of a Jewish state of Israel, or a renunciation of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to Israel, or the right of Israel to maintain a security presence in the Jordan Valley?  Of course not–but you can be sure that they will not reject such a framework outright.

The Palestinian game has always been to play for time. Get every murderer you can released, then run to the European Union for increased boycotts and to the United Nations for recognition. The Palestinians know that in the end, the world will blame Israel.

What will 2014 bring? An even weaker and more unprincipled Netanyahu and an ever more vulnerable Israel. Netanyahu will sign John Kerry’s “framework for peace”, and Netanyahu will continue releasing murderers.

In the end, Netanyahu’s weakness will isolate Israel even more. The world has never respected an appeaser.
