The Search Continues For The Missing Israelis

UPDATES 7 am Israel time, Saturday, June 14 2014:

**The search continues for the three Israeli teenagers who are presumed to have been kidnapped on Thursday night: Yaakov Naftali, Gilad Michael, and Eyal Teshura.

The three are all yeshiva students with two of them being from the Makor Chaim Yeshiva High School in the religious kibbutz Kfar Etzion between Jerusalem and Hebron (this is in Area C of Judea). They were apparently hitchhiking their way home toward Modi’in from their yeshiva study Thursday night when they were picked up by Palestinian terrorists at a popular hitchhiking spot between  Kfar Etzion and Alon Sh’vut (see map below).

One of the boys was apparently able to place an emergency call to security officials saying that they had been kidnapped before his phone stopped transmitting.

Dawlat al-Islam, a Muslim Salafist terror group, has claimed responsibility for the kidnappings which it says is in retaliation for the killing of three of its “operatives” last month. Dawlat al-Islam is an offshoot of  ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) which is currently overrunning much of Iraq.

Dawlat posted this flyer around Hebron yesterday:

Thanks to Allah, our holy warriors were able to kidnap three Zionist aggressors in the city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

That comes as part of the initial response to the assassination of our heroic holy warriors in Hebron, “Muhammad Nairoukh,” 29 years old, “Mahmoud Al-Najjar,” 23 years old, and Musi Makhamreh,” 22 years old.  And that [also] comes as part of the pursuit to liberate our prisoners from the occupation forces’ prisons.

And it is [either] a jihad [for] victory or martyrdom

Meanwhile there has been considerable jostling back and forth over the last 24 hours between PM Netanyahu who has labeled the kidnappings as a byproduct of the PLO-Hamas terrorist merger, and Mahmoud Abbas who can’t seem to decide where he stands on the terror incident.

In the latter regard, we had one Abbas spokesman saying yesterday:

“The Palestinian Authority hopes the boys will be found and we will help Israel in searching for them. The incident occurred in Area C and in previous cases in which Israelis entered the territory of the Palestinian Authority, security personnel helped transfer them safely back to Israel.”

However, another Abbas spokesman, Adnan al-Damiri, had this to say:

“Three settlers are missing, why is this the fault of the Palestinian Authority? We have nothing to do with this issue. If a natural disaster hits Israel, would we be responsible? This is mad and unacceptable, we have no knowledge about this.”

So what is the bottom line here?

1. Your humble servant earnestly hopes that the three teenagers are alive though there seems to be little basis for that hope–other than the announced intention of Dawlat al-Islam to trade the three for Palestinian terrorists in prison. The unfortunate fact of the matter which everyone knows, however, is that Israel has often traded prisoners for dead Israelis.

2. This kidnapping comes as no surprise. More than 50 attempted kidnappings were thwarted in 2013 alone. In a situation in which the PLO-Hamas terrorist government spews forth a neverending stream of incitement against Israel and perpetrates hundreds of “rock throwing”, IED, and Molotov cocktail attacks against Israelis in Judea and Samaria each month with almost complete impunity, it was just a matter of time before such violence escalated.

How much longer will it be until we see car bombings and suicide bombers of the type we now see being used by ISIS in Iraq?

Addendum:

The world watched yesterday as Iranian Revolutionary Guards (in a scene reminiscent of their activities in Syria) rolled into Baghdad in order to shore up the Shi’ite al-Maliki government against the onslaught of ISIS.

And according to the Iranians, why are they being “forced” to intervene? According to Hojjat al Eslam, Iranian deputy minister of intelligence, “Israel and America” are responsible for fall of Mosul to ISIS.

Your humble servant leaves you this morning (with updates to continue during the day as necessary) with this rather amazing quote from President Obama at a Tumblr-user gathering yesterday made as Americans are in the midst of a full scale withdrawal from Iraq:  “I mean, the truth of the matter is that for all the challenges we face, all the problems that we have, if you had to be — if you had to choose any moment to be born in human history, not knowing what your position was going to be, who you were going to be, you’d choose this time. The world is less violent than it has ever been” (as reported in The Washington Times).
