–>Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours:
*Last evening, a Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab two Israelis on King David Street in Jerusalem. The Israelis were not physically wounded; the terrorist escaped.
*All day today, from Halhul in the Hebron Hills to the Ras Al-Amud neighborhood of Jerusalem, terrorists have assaulted Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs in at least 30 locations.
*In anticipation of missile fire from Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, the Iron Dome missile interception system has just been deployed in the Ashdod area, and just outside of Rehovot.
–>A welcome sight today:
Rabbi Yehuda Glick and his wife on the Temple Mount this morning. In the background is the Kipat HaSela, under which is the holiest place in Judaism–the Foundation Stone on which rested the Holy of Holies during the time of the First Jewish Temple. The Kipat HaSela is also known as the Dome of the Rock.
Rabbi Glick, who was nearly killed in an assassination attempt on October 29, 2014, was finally allowed back on the Mount today. A fierce advocate of religious freedom on the Mount, Glick had been denied entrance to the Mount since that attempt on his life. Finally, a court lifted the restrictions on Glick, and he returned today.

The Israeli government continued its outreach to Africa today with a meeting between PM Netanyahu and the African ambassadors to Israel. In a warm exchange, Netanyahu was invited to visit numerous countries in the coming year.
TODAY’S BLOG:
All of Israel is talking about the absurdly dangerous sequence of events that transpired in Qalandiya overnight.
First, a little context.
Qalandiya is what the Palestinians like to call “a refugee camp” which is located within the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem. It is, in fact, a neighborhood of some 12,000 people which is studiously avoided by the Jerusalem police because it is the home of numerous violent terrorist organizations.
Because of the violence of its inhabitants, Qalandiya has roadblocks and checkpoints at every entrance and exit. The IDF and Border Guards irregularly enter Qalandiya in order to capture terrorists and demolish terrorist homes.
What happened last night?
1. Two IDF soldiers inadvertently drove their vehicle into Qalandiya.
2. In doing so, they ignored numerous signs informing them that they were entering a dangerous area–and apparently drove right through a checkpoint. They have claimed today that they were led down the wrong road by WAZE, the Israeli transportation phone app. However, WAZE specifically has a default setting which steers drivers clear of Palestinian controlled areas. They apparently ignored the default setting.
3. Once in Qalandiya, their vehicle was immediately set upon by throngs of “rock” and Molotov throwing terrorists. It was stopped and set on fire.

4. In the process, the two soldiers somewhat miraculously escaped into Qalandiya and called for help.
5. The IDF and Border Guards immediately mounted a massive rescue operation. Hundreds of soldiers, supported by helicopters poured into the area.
6. In firefights that ensued, four Border Guards were wounded. At least one Palestinian was killed.
7. Eventually the two soldiers, who split up and hid, were rescued in different parts of Qalandiya.
All in all, it was a case of gross incompetence on the part of the two soldiers–incompetence that nearly cost the lives of many brave fighters.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
