–>Palestinian terror in the last 12 hours:

*Two Palestinian terrorists infiltrated the Jewish community of Eli early this morning. They broke into a home in which an IDF reserve officer was just heading out. In the ensuing struggle, the reservist was beaten and stabbed with a club, axe, and knife, but he managed to push the terrorists away from the rooms of his five children as his wife frantically called for help.

Eventually, the terrorists fled from the house, but fortunately were shot and killed by IDF soldiers who answered the alarm.

*More Palestinian “rock” and Molotov attacks targeting Israeli children, women, and men have occurred throughout the day in such places as Al Fawwar, Mt. Hebron, Dhahariyah, Shuafat, Silwan, Ras Al-Amud, Y’abad, and Tekoa. It is worthwhile remembering that each time a “rock” or Molotov is thrown by terrorists, the purpose is to kill Israelis.

–>More illegal European Union buildings have been destroyed.

The Civil Administration has been busy again today destroying 21 illegally built European Union tents and buildings in Area C. This time the tents and buildings were in the Jordan Valley.

–>The Gulf States declare that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization.

The six member Gulf Cooperation Council issued a statement yesterday calling on all countries to impose sanctions on Hassan Nasrallah’s organization because it contravenes “basic human values.”

Saudi Arabia took the lead in announcing that it has severed all ties with the Lebanese Army because of its connection to Hezbollah. The transfer of 3 billion dollars of military equipment to the Lebanese has been halted.

TODAY’S BLOG:

As regular readers of israelstreet know, your humble servant was away from February 14-28 while he was “at sea.”

To be more precise, my wife and I were aboard an ocean liner which cruised from Los Angeles down the western coast of Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica) before crossing the Panama Canal and traveling to Colombia. From there, we continued back to Miami, brushing the coasts of Haiti and Cuba.

All along the way, we encountered nothing but support for Israel both off the ship in the various countries we traveled to, and on board among the passengers.

We heard about deepening Israeli-Guatemalan ties from business people we talked to in Guatemala, and saw billboards supporting Israel in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

On board, we struck up numerous conversations with passengers from all over the United States from California to Maine and most points in between. I remember the couple from Ohio that I met in the boat’s gift shop. When they learned I lived in Israel for half of each year, they were eager to tell me about how much they support the country.

And their support stemmed from a deep understanding of the situation.

The woman went to great length to decry the biased media coverage against Israel which focuses on presenting the Palestinian narrative. As she put it, “How can anyone believe media reports which attack Israel when these reports are based on staged Palestinian media events?”

How true.

Another couple from Alaska wanted to talk about how the European Union works tirelessly to delegitimize Israel.

How true.

A woman from Arizona (a Christian) wanted to know: “How is it possible that there are Jews in the United States who do not support Israel?”

How true.

A couple from Wyoming were anxious to tell us that every time they hear or read any report about BDS, they immediately go out and buy a product from Israel.

A man from Texas rued the fact that he was too old to volunteer for the IDF; endless people (non-Jews) told us that they will be traveling to Israel in the next 12 months; and on and on.

Your humble servant was warmly remembering all of these conversations today when I saw the latest Gallup Poll concerning American support for Israel:

Note the three lines.

Note the three lines. It is fascinating to observe that in 2001, 33% of American had no opinion about the Middle East situation; that number is now 23%–the 10% of the people who gained an opinion all now support Israel.

Isn’t it amazing that despite all of the bad press that Israel receives every minute of every day, and all of the destructive actions that Obama and Kerry have taken against Israel, that American support for Israel remains as strong as ever?
