UPDATES 9:00 am Israel time
–>Palestinian terror yesterday (Saturday).
No day passes in Israel without tens of Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers. The fact that virtually none of these attacks is reported in the international or leftist Israeli media has long since ceased to surprise anyone.
Yesterday, among many attacks:
*Palestinian terrorists smashed out the windshield of a bus on Route 443 nearly causing it to crash.
*Palestinian terrorists shattered windows on the Jerusalem Light Rail train traumatizing passengers.
*Palestinian terrorists attacked a military vehicle near A-Ram.
*Palestinian terrorists wounded an IDF soldier near Kedumim.
*Palestinian terrorists assaulted an ambulance near Anatot.
*Palestinian terrorists attacked an IDF force at Talitha.
*Palestinian terrorists firebombed the Beit Orot Yeshiva on the Mt. of Olives in Jerusalem.
And the list goes on and on.
–>Speaking of Palestinian terrorists.
Do you remember these terrorists:
Amjad Awad and Hakim Awad were the ones back on June 5, 2011 that broke into the Fogel family home in Itamar and bloodily slaughtered the family (mother-Ruth, father-Ehud, Yoav-11 years old, Elad-4 years old, and Hadas-3 months old). They were all brutally stabbed to death; Hadas, the infant, was stabbed to death and decapitated with a knife.
At trial, they proudly confessed to the murders and were sentenced to life in prison.
Yesterday, an investigative article appeared in a British online newspaper which decried the billions of British pounds being spent on foreign aid–particularly the money that is earmarked for Palestinian aid.
Approximately 144 million dollars (72 million pounds) is being sent to Ramallah.
As the article notes: “Britain gives £ 72 million a year to Palestine, more than one-third of which goes straight to the PA [aka the PLO]. It openly admits supporting terrorists whom it hails as heroes for fighting illegal occupation, awarding lifetime payments that rise depending on time spent in jail and the seriousness of crimes.”
The article estimated that Amjad Awad and Hakim Awad have already received some $32,000 (16,000 £) of British taxpayer money. And that is just of British taxpayer money. Their “monthly stipend” they receive will only increase as years go by.
The article also pointed out that Abdallah Barghouti, a Hamas bomb-maker who supplied suicide vests for attacks in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem has already received 116,000£($232,000).
–>In the Syrian war.
Reports reached western sources yesterday that “hundreds of bodies” of Hezbollah fighters, Afghan mercenaries (hired by Iran), and soldiers of the Assad regime have arrived at a military hospital in Tartus.
Apparently, they were all killed in battle at Tadmur, 135 miles northeast of Damascus. Tadmur is known in English as “Palmyra.”
TODAY’S BLOG:
It is difficult to overstate the anger that has swept through much of Israel since last Thursday when an IDF soldier (still anonymous) was arrested on “suspicion of murder.” It is an anger that is largely directed at the IDF general command, the political leadership, and leftist organizations that seek to delegitimize the IDF.
There were demonstrations in various cities last night, posters have been on street corners, and petitions of support for the soldier are being circulated online. One such petition put together by IDF veterans has already garnered almost 50,000 signatures.
People are particularly angry because they believe that the soldier had every reason to act as he did in killing a terrorist who was lying on the ground after being shot. They believe that the soldier’s account is the correct one–that he killed the terrorist because he thought the terrorist was wearing a suicide vest and was about to detonate himself killing all those around him.
People believe the soldier’s account because every aspect of it has been backed up by evidence: on one video, soldiers and civilians can clearly be heard yelling that the terrorist probably has a bomb vest on; and on another video, we can see that the terrorist moves just prior to being shot.
People are also angry because of the incredible way that the IDF command immediately threw the soldier under the bus, totally based on a video supplied by the infamous B’Tselem organization. Before the soldier had been given his day in court, and before other evidence had been gathered, the IDF command structure–led by so-called “Defense” Minister Ya’alon and Chief of Staff Eisenkot– had already tried and convicted him in public.
It has been an egregiously appalling instance of railroading, scapegoating, and abandonment.
The absurd aspect about the situation is that the more the IDF leaks information trying to prove the soldier’s supposed guilt, the more it supports the soldier’s claims. For example, an “unnamed IDF senior official” revealed yesterday that the terrorist had already been checked for explosives before the soldier shot him. But then the spokesman lamely added that the checking had been done before some of the paramedics and the soldier arrived on the scene–and that the person who inspected the terrorist had left the scene before these people arrived.
In short, no one on the scene at the time of the shooting knew that a check had been made.
What is more, the IDF spokesman was speechless this morning when it was revealed that the IDF itself had been warning our soldiers for the last three weeks that a Hamas cell in Hevron was going to carry out a combined attack (shooting, stabbing, explosives).
But guess who the IDF is now planning to interview?
Palestinians who were at the scene and who live in the area.
As for Chief of Staff Eisenkot, he refuses to just “shut up” and wait for the military investigation to take place (even though we all know now what the outcome will be). Late last night, he issued this statement:
“The IDF will back soldiers and commanders who committed mistakes, but not when their behavior is not in line with the military’s values.”
Gee, and your humble servant thought that the IDF’s primary focus was to protect this country and defend Israeli lives.
