The Most Unbelievably Stupid Quote Of The Day

If there has ever been a more stupid statement from an Israeli politician in recent years, your humble servant would like to see it.
The outrageous notion that Israel (aka Israeli citizens) are somehow responsible for Palestinians in the Palestinian state of Gaza is egregiously offensive.
Israel unilaterally pulled out of Gaza 14 years ago in 2005. Following that pullout, an election was held, and the citizens of Gaza voted for Hamas in 2007.
Hamas has ruled Gaza with an iron hand ever since. Israel does not have one scintilla of responsibility for “the civilians” of Gaza.
The horrible effect of the idiotic statement of Katz will be that it will provide more ammunition to Israel-bashers who blame Israel for everything that happens in Gaza.

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria . . .
There were numerous attacks on Israeli civilians and on our IDF soldiers and Border Guards yesterday. Two of the worst were at Beit Awa where a terrorist was killed as he threw a Molotov explosive at a soldier, and Hevron where another terrorist was killed as he attacked Border Guards.

Regular readers of OneIsrael know how the IDF has played a constantly shifting game of “who’s to blame for Palestinian terror?”
For years it was the PLO; then it was Hamas; a year or so ago, it became Islamic Jihad.
Yesterday the IDF spokesman blathered that the IDF has assessed that the most recent missile fire was not from Islamic Jihad after all—it was from a “rogue element” within Islamic Jihad.

If the IDF would spend less time trying to make the PLO, Hamas, and now Islamic Jihad look like the good guys, we might be able to actually attack all of these terrorists in Gaza.
But that will never happen in today’s politically correct IDF General Command.
Speaking of missiles and terrorists . . .
Israel’s Channel 12 television has awarded the title of “Israel’s most bombarded city” to Ashkelon. According to station statistics, 487 missiles were fired at the city between January 1-November 30. Of these 419 were intercepted by the Iron Dome.
Your humble servant must take issue with the Ashkelon designation; no places have been harder hit than Sderot and Nahal Oz.
Channel 12 also reports that “more than” 2,600 missiles have been fired at southern Israel in the last 2 years–with about 1500 coming in the last year. These numbers are roughly consistent with the actual number of missiles and mortars which you see in the right hand column of this page.
As the report points out, the first missile was fired from Gaza in 2001. 35 were launched in 2002. Since then the number fired has steadily increased.

A Brief Snapshot Of New IDF Combat Recruits

The November-December IDF recruiting cycle is now underway. Statistics released yesterday indicate that so far:
*The average age of new recruits is 18 years and 9 months.
*38.1% of combat recruits are women; 61.9% are men.
*482 of the recruits are new immigrants.
*459 of the recruits are chayal bodedim (lone soldiers with no family in Israel).
*The new immigrants and lone soldiers come from these countries (in order of numbers): Russia, Ukraine, France, the United States, Indonesia, Ireland, El Salvador, Albania, Barbados, Zimbabwe, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Yugoslavia, Norway, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan and Cambodia.
Your humble servant is always impressed by the number of foreign-born recruits–which now constitute 10% of Israel’s fighting force.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
