Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Palestinian terrorists infiltrated Kfar Tapuach which was put on lockdown for a number of hours before the “all clear” siren was sounded.

IDF forces carried by 30 military vehicles captured Bassam al-Saadi, the leader of Islamic Jihad in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria. Saadi’s nephew was also captured amidst a fierce firefight in Jenin in which a number of Palestinians were wounded. No casualties were reported among our soldiers.

787,211 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 5,354 newly confirmed cases.

717 are in critical condition—a decrease of 12

224 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 10

5,797 have died–an increase of 18

There are currently 42,733 active Corona cases in Israel.

An estimated 4.8 million have now received at least one dose of vaccine.

And so begins the Purim bump. The number of new cases jumps to over 5,000 (an increase of more than 3,000 since yesterday) and the number of active cases also jumps by around 3000 as well.  The number of critically ill, on ventilators, and dead continue moving in the right direction–but this is likely to change as the new and active cases become more serious.

Unfortunately the R factor, the coefficient of infection, went over 1.0 today.

Who is getting sick now? 40% of all patients who became critically ill this past week were Israeli-Arabs. Ultra-orthodox critically ill declined by 22%, and general population individuals dropped by 10%.

These numbers may not be comforting to people who think the vaccine affords complete protection from the virus. However, we can find some comfort from the fact that “only” 384 (240+144) vaccinated people died out of the 4.6+ million who had been vaccinated by the end of February.

A cryptic tweet today . . .

Minister of the Environment Gila Gamliel tweeted this a few hours ago in reference to the ship that spilled the oil which has contaminated Israel’s beaches:

“We got our hands on the criminal ship.”

What this means is anyone’s guess. Have Israeli commandos boarded the ship that is responsible? We’ll undoubtedly find out in the coming days.
