New Census Figures

The new census figures are out this morning with the not unexpected results that 75% of those in Israel are Jewish. I remember that in 1983 (the first year I started looking at these figures) that 84% of Israelis were Jewish. So you can do your own calculations as to the demographic trend. However, it must be said that the percentage of Arabs in the population has steadied–partially as a result of the increased haredi birthrate–which has reached 8.2 in the areas around Jerusalem.  What Israel needs to work on is wooing Israeli citizens back to Israel from abroad.
