Palestinian terror

It was an especially violent Monday with Palestinian terrorists targeting Israeli men, women, and children in more than 40 terror attacks.

Throughout Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem, and the rest of Israel, “rocks” and Molotovs attempted to kill Israelis at such places as Shuafat, Jalazun, Bethel, Hizma, Beit Hanina, Nazareth, Husan, Gush Etzion, Makel, Nebi Elias, Emmanuel, Road 55, Turmus’ayya, Abu Dis,  Pondok, Road 443, Beit Horon, Hevron, Ofer, and Rachel’s Tomb.

Security personnel and civilians were wounded and traumatized.

TODAY’S BLOG

Who will be president of the United States tomorrow morning?

Let’s get a few things out of the way before answering that question.

First, your humble servant has already voted and hereby lets it be known that he did not vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

Insofar as Hillary is concerned, I could never vote for her because her animus against Israel as expressed repeatedly when she was Secretary of State. Between 2009 and 2012, she or her spokespeople began virtually every press conference with a denunciation of this country. But even more, after what happened in Benghazi, the thought that Clinton could be commander-in-chief of the U.S. is downright nauseating. And this is not even to mention her reckless and felonious handing of classified information. And what are we to say about the Wikileaks revelations about “pay to play” at the Clinton Foundation? Has there ever been a more corrupt candidate for President? Finally, your humble servant cannot stomach the way that Hillary did everything within her power to besmirch the reputations of the women that her husband Bill had affairs with.

As far as Donald Trump is concerned, I could never vote for him for a variety of reasons. First, through his actions and words, he has demonstrated a demeaning of women that I find egregiously unacceptable. Second, I was also repulsed by his constant demeaning of everyone else in the Republican primary from Marco Rubio to Ted Cruz; Trump seems to know how to do nothing except insult, insult, and insult. Third, the thought that Trump somehow holds the key to unlock economic success in the U.S. is absurd on its face. A successful businessman? Hardly. He has declared bankruptcy 3 times, and only gotten out of his debt (who knows if he really has) by leveraging it against the banks that loaned him money. Fourth, I find his statements about Israel disingenuous in the extreme. Would he really move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem? Would he really fight to keep Jerusalem undivided? Would he really go after the Palestinians in the court of public opinion? I sincerely doubt it. There is no telling what he might do.

And so, again, I did not vote for Clinton or Trump, but instead wrote in a name on my California ballot (I also could not vote for Gary Johnson–anyone who has never heard of Aleppo should not be president).

Second, you should know, dear reader, that your humble servant is a lifelong registered non-partisan. What this means is that I try to look at each candidate regardless of party and vote for those whom I think are best.

Having said that, it does seem in recent years that I have found myself agreeing most with the Republicans–especially when it comes to Israel. For example, back in 2007, my wife and I took a long look at Senator Obama’s record (such as it was) and that of John McCain, and decided to throw our support behind McCain. We spent two months campaigning for him in our local Farmer’s Market and were intensely disappointed when he lost.

In 2012, we saw what 4 years of President Obama looked like and once again decided to support the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney. Thus, we faxed in our ballots from here in Israel to our California Elections Office.

And anxiously awaited the result. We had hopes that Romney would pull it out.

I remember staying up late on election night. The results started coming in at about 3 am Israel time, but the pictures told the story without our having to see the actual vote. CNN was reporting from Philadelphia and Cleveland, and what we had were remarkable images of people standing in lines more than a mile long to vote.

I turned to my wife and said simply “The election is over.” I said this because the long lines meant one thing: the Democrat Party ground game had turned out its base in huge numbers. It was clear that Barack Obama would be president again.

Now, as Yogi Berra said, it is deja vu all over again.

A few weeks ago in October we learned the following numbers from Newsmax. Across the U.S., the Clinton campaign had (at that time; they have since employed more) more than 4,200 staffers whose job it is to turn out the vote. The Trump campaign had only 130 (another 750 were employed by Republicans to turn out the vote for down ballot races).

In short the Democrat ground game had outstaffed the Republicans by more than 5 to 1.

In the battleground states a similar disproportion was noted; Newsmax reported: “In a breakup for certain states, Democrats had five times the number of staffers than Republicans in Florida (520 to around 100); more than three times as many in Ohio (about 360 to around 90), and about almost ten times as many in Virginia (approximately 270 to 30), Pennsylvania (approximately 450 to 40) and North Carolina (300 to 20) . . .”

This morning I woke up looking at the electoral map on CNN which shows that despite all the polls and punditry, Trump has a definite chance of winning 270 electoral votes (there is no way for him to win the popular vote). However, he has to run the table and take Nevada, Arizona, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and of course Florida and Ohio. While this seemingly doable, it just seems unlikely that it is really possible.

He has to take them because I happen to think that the thought that Trump might take Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota is far-fetched at best.

All of which brings me to my prediction.

Because of the Democrat party’s ground game, Hillary Clinton will be President of the United States tomorrow morning.*

And it will be a dark day for Israel.

*Addendum: It must be said that this has been an election season in which everyone except Donald Trump has underestimated Donald Trump. Is there a Brexitesque Trump miracle in the making? By this time tomorrow, we should know.
