TODAY’S BLOG:

The Morning After Trump’s Win

Well, dear leaders, once again your humble servant’s prognostication skills have been found lacking. A day after predicting that Hillary Clinton would be America’s 45th president, Donald Trump is.

If you remember from yesterday, I wrote that Clinton would win because of the Democrat Party’s superior ground game. That turned out to be false. Apparently over the last three years, the Republican National Committee had devoted considerable money and time to a “get out the vote” effort, and it paid off.

You will also remember that I wrote that “I happen to think that the thought that Trump might take Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota is far-fetched at best.” It turned out not to be far-fetched at all. In fact, Trump won Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (Michigan remains undecided at this hour).

So did I get anything right?

Well, sort of. I did attach this addendum yesterday:

“It must be said that this has been an election season in which everyone except Donald Trump has underestimated Donald Trump. Is there a Brexitesque Trump miracle in the making?”

There was indeed a Brexitesque Trump miracle in the making–and in fact, all of Europe is talking about the connection of the Trump victory to Brexit from French President Hollande a few minutes ago to the leaders of the U.K. and Germany.

So we congratulate Donald Trump on his victory and wonder if he will keep the promises related to Israel that he made during his campaign.

Let’s take two for example:

Will he move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?

January 20, 2016: “They [Israelis] want it in Jerusalem . . . I am for that 100 percent. We are for that 100 percent.”

October 28, 2016–Ivanka Trump said: “My father would 100% move the embassy to Jerusalem.”

Will he “rip up” the Iranian Nuclear Appeasement Agreement?

October 12, 2016–Mike Pence: “When Donald Trump becomes president of the United States of America, we’re going to rip up the Iran deal.”

So the sun shines brightly here in Israel this morning, unlike the dark day I forecast yesterday.

Let’s hope it continues to shine.
