250 Palestinian homes to be demolished . . .

Hamas, the grand defender of Palestinian homes, the terror organization that constantly accuses “the Zionist entity” of racism when Israel destroys illegally built Palestinian houses, announced today that it is going to demolish 250 Palestinian homes in northern Gaza.

Why?

Because Hamas says the houses were illegally built on state land. Never mind that 1500 Palestinians will become homeless and that the houses have some historical value, Hamas needs the land to build new mansions for the Hamas elite.

Tiny sheep barn demolished in Samaria . . .

The Israel Police and Civil Administration arrived in force today to dismantle a tiny sheep barn (2 x 5.5 meters) located beside a Jewish community in Samaria. The barn was a temporary structure to protect the owner’s few sheep from the elements.

Could anything have been more ridiculous?

Could anything have been more ridiculous?

Why did the force (with a crane) arrive unannounced?

No reason except the temporary building had been put up with no permit.

As Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan said: “The time has come to stop dealing with trivia, and regulate the Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria to avoid the blatantly absurd.”

Housing Issues Dominate the Day

Two days ago, the municipality of Jerusalem issued permits for the construction of 566 apartments to be distributed among Ramot, Ramat Shlomo, and Pisgat Ze’ev. All of these areas are located in northeastern Jerusalem across the so-called Green Line (the 1949 Armistice Line).

It was announced yesterday that PM Netanyahu and FM Lieberman have also approved the construction of 2500 new homes (mostly apartments) in the major communities of Judea and Samaria.*

While this may seem like a lot of new construction, it is actually a drop in the bucket of what is needed just to accommodate natural growth in Jewish communities, a fact that the Yesha Council which oversees Judea and Samaria was quick to point out:  ” . . . after years of a complete drought, this construction is a very limited decision which does not meet the great need in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley . . . The Israeli government must approve all plans are that are on the table and accept bids for construction in all of Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley.”

The council went on to say that it is time to build outside the major communities.

It should be added that, as always, Netanyahu and Lieberman succumbed to political correctness coupling the announcement with another announcement that a large industrial zone for Palestinians will be established near Tarqumiya. It will be the largest industrial zone in all of Judea and Samaria.

So what has been the reaction of various governments? Entirely predictable except for one:

The Palestinian Authority (aka the PLO) blustered “There will be consequences; Israel will pay at the international level.”

The French FM declared that “East Jerusalem should be the capital of Palestine.”

The German Foreign Ministry took up the cudgel of the U.S. State Department with this statement that suddenly seems out of date and even obsolete with its talk of settlements, occupied territories, violation of international law, two state solution, and the Quartet:

german statement

But lo and behold, the U.S. State Department said nothing**. Nada. Zip. Zilch. A warmer wind is indeed blowing from Washington.
